Day 1 of a planned 5 day festival of golf went different to what I expected. My mate said yesterday that he had a phone hook up for work from 10:30 to midday. I told him that I couldn’t play after 12 as I had to pick the kids up from school. I tried to ring him but his mobile diverts to his work when he’s on holidays. I texted him twice to get him to ring me. Nothing from him.
Instead I go to Crows Nest Golf Club (50kms from my place) and played a stroke round. I shot 86/75 (3 over handicap). I played alright but some bad bounces and constant magpie attacks cost me.

Yeah we’ve got one non-friendly magpie that has a penchant for ****ing me over. I have a phobia of birds so I lose my shit.

up to 25 degrees this weekend though so 18 at Red Cliffs Saturday and another 18 at Riverside Sunday. Haven’t played riverside before, but the guy I hit with last Saturday is a member there so we are backing up at his course.

I guess it is now about that time of the year where i walk on certain holes holding a club so that the club head is a foot above my head

yeah I get my playing partner to spot for me while I line up. Then I do the same.

Funny enough I have never been swooped on the course. Too short probably...they might think I am a sprinkler head or something lol.
I was going to say that maybe Magpies are racist 😂 but when I used to go to Charters Towers every couple of years this magpie would only attack my mate on the golf course there.

I live in an apartment, tried to swing a club out in the communal backyard last night and took a divot and sprayed my partners car with mud. So, needless to say, I’m not really able to swing at all during lockdown.

I am wanting to ask the brains trust here about swing thoughts. What is the best thing you’ve heard that resonated with you?

I always thought that I made best contact playing a punch shot like a straight drive in cricket. No matter what the coach or YouTube says though I could never quite understand the concept of releasing the club.

That was until I listened to Martin Chuck. He’s an American guy who talks fast and can be a little hard to follow what words he is saying, but watching a few of his tutorials have helped articulate what I thought was a straight drive into a golf swing. For me it was essentially pushing my right (trail) hand down in the downswing. Giving that simple swing thought conscious effort allowed me to feel the club release in the backyard (pre divotgate). I’m super keen to get out there and hit some balls like this.

So, BF, what is your best swing thought? Can be for any shot.

(Sorry in advance to anyone who reads this or the replies and it plays havoc with your own swing)

Having changed my swing a billion times, ive figured stuff trying to get the perfect swing. ensure the club face is square as can be. Furyk it up if i want, so long as the ball goes in the direction i want.

“don’t try to kill the ball”. Because my main issue is swinging too hard.

I’ve taken to swinging hard as a practice swing first just to release a bit of the adrenaline and tension, knowing I have to dial it back for the real shot. Given at this stage in my development my swings are rarely the same that seems to work. As I get better and more able to replicate a consistent swing I’ll start to practice my swing as normal

Managed to get out for 9 today before having to go back to work this afternoon. So much more enjoyable not having to rug up for a round. Hope the mask rule stops in time for warmer weather as that is going to be uncomfortable.

Standard 45 for me, a couple of pars a couple of doubles. Drove the worst i have for a long time but scrambled pretty well

past two days up here have been mint. tomorrow meant to be mid 20s so I’ll take that. Mask is shit though.

Can’t wait until 45 after 9 is a standard for me. I’ve got three weeks of leave coming up so lots of time to work on it

So, I didn’t play yesterday. I was going to and my mate couldn’t play. I decided to work and then at midday I was going to drive 20kms to Borneo Barracks Golf Club and play their 12 hole course. Just about to leave and the wife texted me asking what I wanted for lunch. Five minutes later and I would’ve said golf. 🤣
Played today in the Middle Ridge Challenge and shot 92/76 (par 70) on the temp course. Six over handicap. My putting and iron shots was horrendous.
Tomorrow I’m back home in a Stableford. Carting it tomorrow.

If you go 90 off the stick it is very impressive!!! Ive broken 90 a handful of times, and by that I mean 89

You are at tougher courses though and would get punished for mistakes. Generally i can put most drives 210-230 somewhere near the fairway, punch out somewhere close to the green chip or pitch on and 2 putt.
Under 90 is always my first target

Bogey golf! Or a par 5 par!

Bogey golf is the most fun golf if you haven't got the time or desire to go low. It's the best social handicap.
