Par earns only 1 point and an ace only got him 4. Imagine how quickly you'd get through a Par round when you were picking up after missing birdie putts.
He ended up shooting 9 under off the stick

Played a round of gulf at kew today. When advised the conditions were spectacular by the locals, I was disappointed with the offering. slow greens (probably saving them for tomorrow ok), bare patches on aprons, and i think a bit of some grass illness in parts. but i am no horticulturalist.

course was ok. some strange hole layouts on the front 9 which can cause confusion. very soft bubkers and sand, which demands excellent shots to escape.

just some practice at national late arvo.

Kew has been in great shape but its comparitive. PK is a world apart and cant be compared. We have a new head guy last few months, he was 2IC, and he has made the greens faster and truer. However that was coming off a very slow base as previous heads have thought, due to the huge traffic the course gets, they couldnt go firm at all. They have improved but a long way off sandbelt speed. Which holes on the front 9 confused?

I am in Perth for 5 weeks and off to Lake Karrinyup today for a 4BBB comp. Have played it once before and thought it was outstanding. Also got reciprocals with Royal Freo and Mount Lawley so hope to give them a try while here

Played the fourth and wandered to the fifth tee to find the group in front teed off 7th. Lol

8th green at the back of 1. Putting out effectively crossing paths with those who finished the first to get to the 9th raised eyebrows. Was nice to say hi to them walking past however which would be good for club culture.

Fair call on Kew’s conditioning. Especially as you say coming from a slow base. It was just surprisingly is all when he said great condition to find various spots of bare patches. However with more heat the growth will be back with a vengeance.

Also given it was a Friday round I strongly believe greens would be quicker on weekends.

Was Kew the course in Melbourne that was badly affected by flooding a few years back and took quite a while to recover? I remember seeing pictures, I think it was of Kew, and it didn’t look great.

Yes kew and green acres both affected. I mean built next to the river what could go wrong?

However, what happened in 22 was a stunningly monumental environmental moment. Check out the youtube vids of the course flyover during the floods. amazing.

Yep, 2 years running in fact. 2022 floods worst for 60 years or so and affected all the Yarra river courses badly. La trobe and Grrenacres probably fared even worse but we were under water for weeks in parts of the course. La Trobe had to replace 15 fairways.
