This is how it plays for me:

Backs: Goddard AND Houlihan (Every team I have made has had the two in it and I can see no reason why they shouldn't both be in every side on here)

Mids: Gibbs (90-95+ written all over him)

Rucks: need I answer

Forwards: Lucas

IMO those 5 players should be in every side...

How is he a "must have" then?

I never said he was.... no rookie is really a must have, at the most they ave played 1 NAB cup game (which means nothing). There is a lot of guess work when picking a rookie, you can do some research to what they averaged at under 18 level but that doesn't convert to decent AFL form.

Rookies in general are a "must have" but there is a large element of luck in picking the correct ones. The basic thing is that you pick ones that play games and if they average more then about 60 its a bonus

I personally do not have him in my team as I don't see the point using up nearly 50K more then I can on another rookie... his upside is that he will play 20+ games barring injuries.

Backs: Houlihan
Mids: Gibbs (although the mids are full of so many options it is hard to lock anyone in this early)
Rucks: Cox
Forwards: Higgins

i take the term MUST HAVE seriously so these are the only players i think the winning team will definitely have in the side pre round 1:

ablett or bartel
cox
higgins

others that are most most likely include:
gibbs, raines, goddard, ziebell, rich, currie

Backs-S.Hill
Mids-B.Gibbs
Rucks-D.Jolly( I believe he is going to have a good year and i'll wait for cox's price to decrease)
Forwards-S.Higgins

I'm hoping Gibb's effort in the NAB cup isn't the reason everyone is selecting him. He played a role that he will rarely play and if he does there is a good chance that a tag will actually be put on him

What role was he playing? I hate Carlton just as much as the next Collingwood man but he has shown for a while now he will be a DT gun / genuine gun in any position. Killed it playing back and in the middle.

Backs - has to be the Chad.
Mids - Judd. Oh wait, this is DT not SC. Hasleby.
Rucks - Cox clearly
Forwards - the kangas rookie. Jack Zomething. A moral for rising star I reckon.

There's no such thing as 3rd year blues. - It's 2nd year blues, which would apply to Palmer & Masten.

So you wouldn't buy Gibbs despite showing all the signs of being a DT gun based on a theory that doesn't exist?
Both theories exist mate.

I dont want to have to pull all the numbers, but here a few examples

Name, First Year average, Second year average, Third year average

Deledio, 61, 77, 77
Cooney, 47, 78, 82
Jones, 66, 70, 71 (both 2nd and 3rd yr blues? lol)
Thomas, 62, 76, 73
Mitchell, 47, 69, 67
Griffen, 54, 67, 54
Birchall, 70, 79, 79
Pearce, 52, 75, 78

Is that enough to convince you there is such thing as third year blues as well?
