No thank's not my type of player nothing that special has come out of him.

huh? mzungu will be a great cash cow. thats the whole point of supercoach/dreamteam  you have so many midrange players when you could save 200k, get mzungu and add another premium to your team. he will average as much if not more than some of your midrange players.

You either pick players you plan on keeping and think they can score well enough, or you pick players that are going to earn you enough money to buy in the players you want. There is more risk in trying to pick the handful of players that will break out this season.

- Astbury I struggle to see holding down a regular spot. You never know though. Perhaps consider Paupaulo from the Hawks who starred in the intraclub game today and use the money to upgrade one of your midrangers to an elite.
Disagree, although you do know your stuff and it is a good read.
Astbury is one playr who really shone last year. His output wasn;t great stats-wise but as a regular watcher, you could just tell he has that something.
I think, barring injury and maybe a rest for a week here and there, he will play every game. Also scored well in our dismal NAB Cup round.
I think he is excellent value in defence and I almost had him first picked in my team.
Can anyone answer my question on Rockliff that I asked earlier? How's he travelling?

rookie watch nick duigan (CARL) batchelour (TIGERS)
puopolo (HAWKS) gaff (EAGLES) schnider (HAWKS) mzungu (FREO) heppel (DONS) polec/beams (LIONS) swallow/bennel/toy/harris (GCS) richardson (ROOS)
wallis (DOGS)

consider these player for a spot in you supercoach team but make sure you get on cam richardson and mzungu big things for these to await in 2011

Scored 70 pts total the other night, looked pretty good really....

Think that he will be up around the 100pts mark, this is what he pretty much averaged in his last dozen or so games at the end of last year....

little black book lions

Hot Shot johnathan Brown a colossus on the field and in supercoach battled groin problems last year and still averaged 98 points a game.Kicks goals (53 last year) almost half his marks are contested, he scored 143 and 161 on one leg in his two final games before being sent for surgery. brown has trimmed down to be more mobile and avoid injuries. if his full fit get him.

Bank Em

josh drummond: A creative playmaker whos lost last year was largely underestimated. he averaged almost 100 points before injury and his accurate long kick from defence is likely to be a feature this year. Simon Black:His star has faded a little but black is still an ultra productive midfielder who comes a little cheaper than most top liner. averaged 26 disposals a game last year and 2nd in the club for clearances expect more of the same.

Buy Em

Jack reddan: hasn't missed a game since his debut in late 2009 and showed what his capable of with 3 100+ returns last year.Lions will need a new breed of midfielders to step up at 20 he fits the bill perfectly. Jared Polec: Brisbanes top draft pick is a highly goal kicking midfielder -the ideal supercoach package- he has the pace lions are crying out for and has senior experience in the SANFL.

Bury Em

Andrew Raines: former tiger offered some value last year but that has dropped in 2011. kicks long but not always with purpose and has a running battle with injuries. Xavier Clarke: one of the golden rules of supercoach is dont select any injury prone players and clark is top of the list did his knee in january and we hope he makes it back, but you wouldnt want supercoach dollars riding on it

Re: little black book lions

Don't worry about Raine's he will come through with a bang in 2011.

Quigs, what are your thoughts on this SC side?
Depth drops off real quick in the forward line, so I'll be playing with this a bit in the weeks to come...

Joshhem, you're not worried about Lake's injury? I'd like to see you upgrade Duncan. There's too many out of the Geelong side atm and I don't think his scoring means much.

I personally am staying away from NicNat this season, but especially in DT. Contested ball is his bread and butter and DT doesn't differentiate for that. Especially with him rumoured to be playing out of the goal square, I can see his scoring showing little improvement.

Z Smith >>>>> Fraser > Gorringe

Josh here is what I think. Given how I went in SC last year take it with a grain of salt perhaps :( I would try and improve your forwards a bit perhaps even going gun/rookie with a spot in your forwards or backs to give you a bit more money to play with. I just think you have too much risk up there atm.

Cheers

Backs
1. Goddard, B - yep. Pricey but the best back and a capt option
2. Lake, B - injured and could be in for a slow start to the year. Personally I am looking at making him my first upgrade after his round 4 bye.
3. Gibbs, B - very popular for a reason.
4. Grimes, J - looked great this preseason. Injury history the only concern and with Adcock, Otten and Lake injury risk seems pretty high. With that said he is in my side.
5. Stratton, B - is an underrated player and could come good. He has not been on my radar but he could be a gooden. Not as cheap as I would like for the risk you are taking though. Out of the Hawks options I am liking Whitecross quite a bit. Seems to have stepped up and the Hawks are using him.
6. Adcock, J - if he is fit and playing off a flank then get on him. If he is not fit and is playing in a pocket don't expect much more than last year. For me it all comes down to that. He is cheap and could deliver nicely but he is no certainty.
7. Otten, A - is playing quite a bit in the midfield so far but has not looked particularly good. Personally I would rather see him back in that third tall role. Still at his price he is hard to go past.

23. Tarrant, R - personally I steer away from KPDers not named Brian Lake especially ones with no job security. Duigan, Coad, Hibberd, Smith would all be better options I think.
24. Heppell, D - Has looked the goods so far.
25. Toy, J - SC is his game and he should play plenty.

Mids
8. Pendlebury, S - looks primed to take another step up.
9. Jack, K - I love the way he finished last year but he was playing the Kirk tagging role on the weekend which scared the hell out of me. Keep an eye on that.
10. Burgoyne, S - he looks primed for a big year.
11. Stanton, B - always looks good in the preseason when no-one is on him but he is very fit and should improve his scoring. SC is not really his go though so I would be cautious.
12. Krakouer, A - yep he should be in most teams for good reason.
13. Swallow, D - a little pricey but he should score and score well.

26. Gaff, A - was talked up but has not really delivered in the two matches to date. Played as the sub on the weekend and this could be a common thing. I might look elsewhere. Polec, Smith, Iles look more likely I think at this stage to get games.
27. Harris, D - has to be in your sides.
28. Pittard, J - if he is picked then give him a go. I wasn't overly impressed last week but there are spots there.

Ruck
14. Sandilands, A - full priced but he should be in the top 2 scoring wise so worth the pick for that.
15. Leuenberger, M - Leuey has not shown an affinity for SC so it is a little bit of a risk but he should improve probably significantly so it could be a nice pick. Personally I have to include Cox in my ruck division given the way he has gone so far. Looks back to his scoring best which means over 100 from a guy priced in the 80s.

29. Smith, Z - yet to see him this preseason which worries me a little given Nicholls has looked okay. He could easily play only half the games as the GC rotate their young rucks in and out and so he could miss just when you need him. Bailey might be one to keep in mind.
30. Derickx, T - solid pick. Looks to be competing with Graham for the number 1 ruck at Richmond which indicates he should play.

Forwards
16. Riewoldt, N - yep he is underpriced.
17. Higgins, S - outstanding this preseason. Injury risk but so are quite a few here.
18. Jurrah, L - I think you might be jumping on a year too early. He still sits pretty deep and will struggle to get the touches to justify the pick. Teams will sit on him this year and he will need to learn how to work through it. I would go with three true rookies on the bench, downgrade Day to a cheaper option and use the money saved to upgrade Jurrah to a true premium like Franklin. This would balance out your side quite a bit better.
19. Duncan, M - was great on the weekend scoring wise and might be worth a punt. Geelong should still share it around plenty and if he is playing through the midfield he could get plenty of it.
20. Wilson, C - don't see it myself. Scored pretty well in his games last year but only played 3 games and is he assured of a spot in the team? I would probably move Gamble onto the field and downgrade Wilson to a true rookie like Richardson or Callihan.
21. Hale, D - has only just returned from injury and might start slow. Still with the attention Buddy and Roughhead will get he should have every chance to score if he is on the park. Will be competing with Lisle for the third tall role. If he back up rucks he suddenly becomes a much better option.
22. Petrie, D - looked poor last week but was better apparently on the weekend and move more up the ground. Great price but if he is stuck in the goal square he will not return to anywhere near his scoring best. His feet also continue to worry me. Probably worth a punt though.

31. Gamble, R - not sure Gamble is a SC player but it looks like he should play and he should up his scoring nicely. Worth a punt at his price and is well suited to being a 7th forward.
32. Day, S - not one of the GC forwards I am considering. Go cheaper with Matera or Dixon who will play more often and easily outscore Day. Day will be great longer term but not this year.
33. Mzungu, T - should be a definate.

Supercoach:

Defenders: Goddard, Deledio, Gibbs, Enright, Otten, Drummond, Duigan (Hibberd, B.Smith, Martin)

Midfielders: Swan, Hodge, Judd, J.Selwood, D.Swallow, Harris (Gaff, Polec, Heppel)

Rucks: Jolly, Leuenberger (Charman, Bailey)

Forwards: Riewoldt, Franklin, Higgins, Dangerfiled, Banfield, Krakouer, Prestia (Mzungu, Matera, Collinan)

Still got 73,000 in the bank.

Quigley i want your thoughts thanks :)

Anyones thoughts on Dick in the forward line for DT?
NO! leon davis will struggle to be in 21. ive got adcock in my team sorta over drummond. but what are your thoughts on drummond and polec this year in dream team. how have they been goin. Dean Cox is back was my 1st picked ripped apart training.

Not a lot wrong with this side at all Lions4flag. Very solid and seems pretty well balanced.

Defenders: Goddard, Deledio, Gibbs, Enright, Otten, Drummond, Duigan (Hibberd, B.Smith, Martin)

Enright had a shocker on the weekend but you can forgive him that. Drummond always an injury risk but with the extra trades you can afford to take the risk. Hibberd I am wavering a bit on still at the moment about whether he is assured of a place in the team and his disposal is a little poor for SC. Maybe consider Toy who should be a great SC rookie this year. I really like the Brodie Smith pick and Stefan Martin could be a very nice pick if he gets to play as the back up ruck. He moves very nicely for a big guy.

Midfielders: Swan, Hodge, Judd, J.Selwood, D.Swallow, Harris (Gaff, Polec, Heppel)

You can't really argue with any of the guns there except to maybe say that I don't see a lot of upside except maybe a little with Hodge. I worry about how Selwood will handle the number 1 tag and his disposal has always been a bit hit and miss and with closer attention this is not likely to improve. Still you don't need upside everywhere and these guys form a very good base for your team. Gaff I really like as a player but I have some concerns about whether he is now likely to play round 1. If he does (and is not likely to be the sub) then jump onboard because I think once he finds his feet he will be a goodie.

Rucks: Jolly, Leuenberger (Charman, Bailey)

I would probably downgrade Charman to someone fit and likely to play. Smith or Derickx would likely be the best options. Jamie will only play if there is an injury and even then McCauley has indicated in the preseason that he can play at AFL level and if we perform like our first two games have indicated we should be going with the young guys. I would then use the money you have in the bank to upgrade Leuey to Cox. Go the safe bet and Cox does look like a top 2 ruck again. Jolly might not be the highest scorer but he doesn't miss games and that counts for quite a lot in the ruck division. He also upped his scoring significantly in the second half of last year. I like that pick.

Forwards: Riewoldt, Franklin, Higgins, Dangerfiled, Banfield, Krakouer, Prestia (Mzungu, Matera, Collinan)

The top 3 there are likely to be in my team as well. Dangerfield I am not sold on personally but if you like him go for it. You can certainly make a good argument for his inclusion. Bear in mind that he has never been a big accumlator at any level and is likely to continue to spend time in the forward line. Similarly with Banfield who should improve his scoring this year but without significant midfield time he might not up his scoring enough. Both are selections I could easily be wrong about though. Personally I might downgrade one of your elite mids to someone like Kennedy perhaps from Sydney and then upgrade one of Danger or Banfield to Cyril who has played full time in the midfield this preseason. Morton from Richmond also returned fulltime to the wing on the weekend which is where he racked up big numbers at the end of last year. Prestia I have some concerns about and think he is be borderline 22 at GC. I am seeing them rotate their fringe 22 players a lot and he could be in for 3 out for 3 or something similar which is not what you want. Definately consider Richardson from North who will score very nicely and looks entrenched in the starting line up.

Which non-GC first year players do you see being there in Rd.1 Quigley? I need a bit of help with my backs.

Puopolo? Duigan? Faulks?

I am actually having more of an issue with my mid rookies and will probably go DP a bit out of necessity. On the backs:

Paupolo - mature and has hit the ground running. Seems like he will play round 1. Confidence level 7.5/10

Duigan - very mature and seemed to be directing the Carlton defence. I would be very surprised if he didn't play round 1. Confidence level 8.5/10

Faulks - another mature guy who seems to be doing okay. I am not as certain with him though and would probably only go with a 6.5/10 there.

Heppell - has looked good so far and improved this week over last. Looking close to cementing a spot and in the midfield which is nice. 8/10

Hibberd - has played both games to date and looked capable if a little scratchy at times. Not a super athlete but another mature guy who has come in and hit the ground running. Essendon do have a few options at the back which cause me some concern. He will play but whether from round 1 is the question. 6/10

Pederson - mature guy who has not found his feet just yet. Still a rookie as well and so I expect they will bring him on slowly. 2/10

Howard - I thought he might be a chance given the departures and injuries from the Bulldogs backline but he still looks a fair way away. 2/10

Smith - I was a bit surprised to see him listed as a back but go with it. He has looked good so far and I would think he is a reasonable chance to play from round 1. He will play a lot and should score well. 6.5/10

That is without any talk of the GC backs who should definately be in contention for your back spots even with the round 1 bye. Toy, Stanley and Coad are guys who should be in most people's sights. They should play most if not all games and should score nicely.

Given that you are going to need to cover for byes this year in addition to injuries the bench is going to be very important. I am thinking of guys who you know will be playing when you need them and will save you from a 0. Atm I am planning around having a permanent bench guy on each line who I will keep in my side regardless of price risers (ie so not a cash cow). If others come along to take that role great but I am wanting guys who will be playing out the season.
