Didn't name Selwood even as emergency? I do think that's fair enough though, we don't have to tag cousins or judd (and with a bit of luck kerr's hamstring will have him due for a round 2 comeback :thumbsu:)

No Copeland in that side either, gives us depth..

I know it's just nit-picking, but I'd prefer to see Stiller in the back half and have J-Mac on the ball. We need some tough bodies to bust the packs. Other than that it looks like a good line-up, with Bradshaw to return a few weeks later :D

Not a bad team there.

I would still have Copeland in the team, probably ahead of Hooper.

Begley is still a rookie, so he wouldn't be able to be named, even as an emergency, unless he is promoted, which I doubt would happen.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm under the impression that a club is allowed 2 nominated rookies (who are able to play without needing to replace a player on the senior list). Because we've got Nigel as our outside 38 veteran, so we can have 1 nominated rookie, and I'm pretty sure that'll be Colm.

In my eyes, Alice is becoming more and more a certainty for round 1. Put him in the 22 and he is capable all over the ground. He has now demonstrated that he can play on the mobile CHF. He's obviously OK in that running key forward role. And I would not be adverse to him playing on dangerous tall mids like Goodes, Cornes etc. Hansen seems like a perfect opponent for him for round 1. The other option is to play a defensive role on someone like Hunter.

Even if we play Brown, Bradshaw and Hendo/Clark up forward and Merrett, Roe and Patfull down back, I don't think we lose too much run by having Mills on the bench.

I've pencilled him into my 22. The guys in bold are dead certs to be selected, leaving 7 positions up for grabs. I haven't included a 3rd tall forward as I am reluctant to include Henderson for round 1 and there's no guarantee that Clark or Bradshaw will be available. Copeland played the role of second marking forward last year to some effect and I would have him in that role unless Henderson continues his form through the rest of the practice matches.

Are we now ruckman too short this year after Beau's departure?

No doubt we are, but there's a limited amount we can do about it.

I'm thinking the idea might be to play three ruckmen. At any given time one will be onball, one will be in forward pocket and one will be on the bench, roughly 10 minutes a time at each. Keeps them all fresh, reduces risk of injury, but keeps them all in the game.

Also complicates opposition defense planning. Charman playing inside 50 presents an entirely different defensive challenge to Leuey or Clark.

Proud and Henderson should both be there.

It's hard to find a spot for Proud. I'd be interested to see who you leave out to squeeze him in.

In my eyes, Alice is becoming more and more a certainty for round 1.

I actually think the impressive debut of Henderson puts pressure on Mills. I had considered Mills as our only real option as a roaming CHF, but Henderson has it all over him in terms of class, and if his running power is anywhere near Mills' he may be the preferred option. I'm not really a fan of playing Mills anywhere else.

My Side...

B: Begley, Merrett, MacDonald.
HB: Drummond, Roe, Patfull.
C: Rischitelli, Lappin, Notting.
Foll: Charman, Black, Adcock.
HF: Power, Brown, Copeland.
F: Clark, Bradshaw, Hooper.

Inter: Johnstone, Leuenberger, Selwood, Sherman.

Emer: Henderson, Kiel, Stiller.

With Tippett likely to be promoted it's hard to see both of those guys being elevated to the senior list.

Mills + Copeland to start on ground before Brennan :confused::thumbsdown:

Mills and Brennan play different roles.

You could switch Copeland and Brennan if it really upsets you, but it was easier to put Brennan on the bench because he will be played in a variety of roles.

Two things everyone.

1. If we're going to be hurt anywhere this season its in the ruck. An injury to either Charman or Berger and we're going to struggle to get the ball out of the centre, which was one of our main issues last season. While we've added Trapper into the mix, doesnt make alot of difference if we cant get first use of the ball from a hitout.

2. We're still lacking a CHB. Not taking anything at all away from our backline; Roe, Joel, Merrett etc, however its one area of concern albeit not as much as getting it out of the middle because if we do get it out of the middle we've got the chance of hurting the opposition on the scoreboard which can compensate somewhat.

My 2 cents worth (although with inflation its probably 2.3c) on this topic.

The days of the monster CHB are over in many respects, normally the power forward doesn't play too far up the field and if they do that is where you want them to get their touches. Basically Merrett takes the big forward, teams like the Saints with Kosi and Reiwoldt, Cats with Mooney and Hawkins, might cause us problems, both Patfull and Roe play taller and are excellent athletes. I am willing to back them in.

I don't see room for Selwood or Copeland if we are pretty much at full strength. Mills is an interesting proposition, I think his only real future in the AFL is if he can hold down a tall defender position. But in saying that, if Clark and Bradshaw are unavailable for the first game then Mills must play CHF. He will present hard and often, he will make a contest and he will try.

Proud must play!
