So whats the go with Thornton? Any news? Lots of clearances going out... i'm guessing they are going to fold.

I have heard that the club will be meeting this Friday to decide their future for the season. I think to take part in the league you need to have at least 2 football and 2 netball teams. If they do fold the bye would just be scratched i assume. That would leave 8 teams. Surely the finals would then revert back to top 4!

2 football sides seems fair enough, but 2 netball sides is a bit rich considering silvan had one. and i think belgrave only had one at some stage.
I hope they manage to keep their club going.

I think based on 2 football and 2 netball sides, T/E will play in 2011. I think they do meet this Friday night to sort it out !

Well I read on Panton Hill's website (Northern FL, formerly in the YVMDFL), that they were due to play practice matches against Thornton/Eildon but they had to cancel them because according to them, Thornton/Eildon had folded.

Well I hope that isn't true, but it seems odd that they (Panton Hill) would put that up there, instead of just saying that the games have been cancelled, anyway I hope they're wrong and that the Shinboners can play on in 2011.

The word around the traps is that Thornton/Eildon will go into "recess" during season 2011, as distinct from "folded". Obviously this would afford them the opportunity of fielding a team sometime in the future, once they can get their numbers back up.

Whilst there appears to be no mention of this on the YVMDFL web site (at least not yet), a quick perusal of the Div.2 fixture reveals an eight team competition with no bye, and no Thornton/Eildon.

As is the case with everyone else who has posted on this topic so far, I wish the people at Thornton/Eildon all the very best and sincerely hope that they are able to get back on track in the near future.

Just to put the info out there for evryones clarification. Thornton - Eildon F.N.C did go into recess for the 2011 season. The reason is purely a lack of players. Financially the club is stable and we still have a functioning cricket club and junior team to keep the sports club afloat.
The club now has the option of regrouping and reforming again in the coming years. Unsure whether this will be possible, however one can only hope.
Make no mistake even though we had a successfull period not long ago, the club has struggled for numbers for quite some time. It's extremely unfortunate fixturing wise, but we would rather be upfront about our situation now, then have issues once the season started.

Got to know Bernie Hourigan a little bit the past few years and a better bloke with passion for just footy in general you'd battle to find. Id say that for the TEFNC as a whole having competed against them since about 2002/3 in the old CGFL days. Let's just hope they can dust themselve's off and get up and about again for 2012.

In 2009 and only probly 4-5 weeks after the devastation of what many of you had to encounter I took the side I was coaching up to Thornton for a praccy game and I couldn't believe some of the numbers I was hearing in terms damage and loss by many directly involved with the club from the Marysville and surrounding region. For them to even participate that year without all the support as mention just shows the quality of people we're talking about.

They've been thru just as much grief as any this past couple of years and to now lose a season from their beloved footy club must be difficult to say the least in a small community.

No doubt a weekend of mixed emotions ended on a high and a big congrats to the Thornton B-graders on winning the club's first cricket premiership since joining the Seymour District Cricket Association :thumbsu:

Well that is unfortunate:(, and sadly all too common in regards to teams in small communities (Wunghnu had to also go into recess recently, but for different reasons), especially after you won a flag not that long ago, and with all the troubles since then.

At least you've got someone using the ground, and some junior footy to build on, but I hope that you (like Kinglake) can come back again in 2012, because it would be a shame to lose a club like yours.

P.S
What's happening in regards to Marysville ?, I seen that they've had new posts installed, and have played some games on their oval, could they potentially make a return to the YVMDFL ?.

Marysville have a vets side, anything more than that is a pipedream. Gonna be a great ground but, hopefully it can be of use to the league in some way!

Unfortunately yes- Coldstream defeated Yarra Glen at Yarra Glen by 4 goals 6 in a dissappointing hit out for the local team. Last year the result was a lot closer and with all recruits playing and a similiar Coldstream side less Jye Conrau I am not happy. Lot of improvement required for Division 1.

You'r not trying to pull the wool over our eyes and play down your teams chances by any chance Deano?

I heard you boys are FIRING on all fronts and a real one to watch this year in Div 1....

Hey boys just a quick one, I am moving up to Alexandra and just wondering how they go. Thanks in advance.
