We played finals just last year.

Ended this season very solid too.

Don't see why we can't make finals next year.

Having said that the Merrett story is nonsense.

Apparently not.

Apparently he’s nearly finished and not worth much.

Despite the fact he’s one of the best players in the comp, has almost never missed a game to injury in his entire career, is a complete and utter pro and has publicly stated he wants to play until at least his mid 30s.

Second rounder or two should do it.

Saint are 56 wins in the last 5 years (11,13,11,10,11) without a midfield. If Merrett backs himself he's adding 2 wins to that by himself.

All we'd then need is a ruck (Marshall is a CHF) and one more midfield grunt (Macrae/Parker?)

From Merretts position though, hes 28 years old, nearly 29. He wants finals and opportunity.

Whether thats at the saints or not remains to be seen, but Essendon booting out experienced forwards and defenders doesnt help his chances.

Nathan Buckley with some very interesting comments on SEN this morning. Stating Merrett has knocked back multiple offers elsewhere over his journey (Carlton came hard from memory) and is now not getting the love back from the dons in terms of who they are walking out the door.

Clearly, there is some sort of interest in exploring options from Zac Merretts side.

This would be devastating for Essendon.
