Finally decided that this is the best 30GB player that suits my needs.

Only on thing bugs me about it. It has a non-removable battery. I've seen a site where someone posted detailed pics and instructions on how to take it apart, including taking to it with a screwdriver to pry it open, and being careful with the electronics, to get to the battery.

Could someone please help me?

If the player is desrcibed as a non-removable battery.... does that mean in 3 years time, when it no longer holds its charge... it is time to bin the whole thing???

Sorry if this sounds stupid, never had a MP3 player before.

I-Pod doesn't suit my needs:

Positives I-Pod v Zen:
Half the thickness
Removable Battery

Positives on the Zen over I-Pod:
More Codecs
Plays DivX without having to use any conversion program.
I-pod seems more fragile
Displays 256,000 colours on LCD v 65,000 on I-Pod.
320 x 240 LCD for I-Pod
Higher for Zen
Zen outouts Video up to 720 x 480ish, I-Pod is half that.
I-Tunes
No add on for the FM Radio
Mic in
Recording on the fly, speech or FM.

There's a lot more that swayed me in.... but those are the main reasons.

There you go. Not meant as an I-pod bashing thread, rather a, why have i chosen what I have over an I-pod.

Good on you by not following the "crowd" or other people saying iPods own everything. I've got the Zen Vision:M and it's great. Yeah and the battery is the only bad thing about it. When it does eventually die you'll have to replace it.

I was going to start a new thread but figured i might aswell just post the question here instead. What do the people on bigfooty beleive is the best mp3 player to purchase? is iPod the way to go, or as i have read in a couple of threads on here the ZEN Vison:M seems to get talked up quiet a bit. What is the difference between this and the ZEN Vision? Is either better?

Also are there any other brands out there that compete with these two?

Is this the one that can play video files as well?

Definitely considering getting one quite soon, as I've heard it's the best Portable Media Player out there besides the Archos one, which is far more expensive.

It really depends on what you want - video, large capacity, radio, ease of use, style, voice recording, a non crappy DRM stance etc

I'm going to buy one for my parents soon- they don't give a toss about video and would require only 2-5Gb capacity, but ease of use is the biggest thing.

Me - I want one with good radio capabilities as well as a 10 GB plus capacity. Video would be good but I don't really care as no player really meets my requirements in that regard.

After having decided that the Zen is vastly superior.... which IMHO, still is....
Better Video, Better Audio Quality.

I'm now forced to go for the 60GB I-Pod:mad:

30GB (Zen doesn't go higher) isn't enough for me and unless you get an I-Pod, no car stereo integration.

So I'm forced to go with the I-Pod:mad:

Except the Audio Quality is not up to scratch.

There's 2 second gaps between songs you cannot get rid of.

There's crackling / hissing when using buttons whilst playing.

Apparently the Battery life is not too flash either.

Stuff it, I-Pod 60GB.... whatever you choose, there'll be something better in 6 months time anway.

Except gigabeat doesn't support Divx, Xvid and loads of other ****. Only WMVs work.
