What would happen if we put Swallow in and he got injured?

Drew is 29. By the time his 3 years is up he will 32. Swallow will be 28 and Jack will be 24. Do we then give Swallow 3 years as Captain because he deserves it? Jack would be 27 by then and we have possibly kept the best leader at the club out of a job for 6 years because we are giving it to blokes who "deserve" it by longevity as opposed to leadership qualities.

I suppose gut feeling is that Ziebell would be the better captain, but he hasn't really played a full season yet.

Drew is a leader & if you put him in then there is no chance of offence to Swallow. Then when Drew finishes up, Ziebell is 24 and more able to take on the role. Less risky than putting Z in now & seeing him break his 3rd leg this year.

2011 didn't count?

Well if he is going to be a better Captain you name him Captain.

If Swallow is offended by the club naming Ziebell Captain, then the club has been justified in not naming Swallow Captain. Hypothetically of course because I don't think Swallow will crack the sads over it.

Your logic is flawed and slightly disturbing. Ouch!

Ummm.....ouch?

I still think we should follow the Hawthorn model the more i think about it.
Mitchell was Captain and won them a flag and led the club well for 4/5 years.
Last year he gave it to Hodge, concentrated on his footy and they both had enormous years.
Will it work for us?? Or should we just go with Jack now.
Bloody hell were spoilt for choice.
The fact were not even considering people of the ilk of Boomer and Drew speaks volumes.

That is the dumbest thing i have ever read. Are you positive Ziebell will break hs leg. God if our decisions on captain ship is based on the prediction of injury god help us

I am one that would disagree on this point specifically.

Okay the act itself was reckless, the intent however was to snap the team into something, to give more, to put body on the line and hurt the opposition.

At the point at which Ziebell did it, any hope of finals was on the line. Forget about the suspension, he did it because he knew they were at a point of now or never.

Captain or not in the coming years if we are playing in a final and everything is going pear shaped it will be Jack I will watch because of that very trait.

He embodies hard at the man hard at the ball and will show aggression when required.
Its semantics really because the 4 main candidates(Boomer/Dish/Spitta/Ziebs) will do the jumper proud.

I couldn't agree any more with this statement........also sends a message to all other opposition players, " play on me and ya gonna get hurt " :- a 19 yr old kid doing that last year against an opposition captain sends a clear warning to all.

Coughs up blood.........goes out and K.O's Reiwoldt a week later.

Enough speculation...

When will our 2012 captain be announced?
We all know it's swallow, why else would they print the big number nine on the back of the 2012 membership card?

Come on north - we have built enough media!
Must unvail yound spitta this week!

Jack will need to work on his stance if he is promoted to the Captaincy. More arm folding and pointing with less sugar bowl impersonations.

What is Patch doing with Jacks testicles?

Looks like he's about to launch into a rendition of Start Me Up.

He's a dead ringer. :thumbsu:
