Who will be better in 2025?

An average at best midfield comfortably accounted for what the Blues could throw at them tonight, Mr Almost the only Hawks key forward kicks 3 while Cunrow on a million bucks couldn’t even register a point!

Blues have got to many players that butcher the ball or just fumble it when there is no one around. The depth of their list is a worry. And De Koning …… has taken over from Gawn as the biggest pusher in the comp when rucking. Didn’t get penalised once!

The swapping of first round picks and the double revenge (being beaten in our last game together and a poor first round outing) didn’t seem to be motivating enough to get a win.

What do the blues need to motivate them more? Or is it a game plan/list issue?

Either way, I fear that even though it’s only round three that Carlton may not find the answers soon enough

I’m not worried about Carlton’s lack of depth…

But is it “worrying” from an objective stand point. I think on scale of 0-10 it’s a 7.5 on the worry scale and depending on the next few rounds this might increase

You’re right, Carlton’s lack of depth should be keeping everyone up at night. We need the world’s best scientists, figuring out the issue of Carlton’s lack of depth. Maybe the Hollywood Hawks could come up with an a grade musical. An opening song, that goes along with “How do you solve a problem like Carlton”.. Have Carlton go and look after a bunch of talented kids from a salty middle aged Collingwood supporter. While the kids are bouncing their footy’s through the fields singing about their favourite things of having solid depth…

Motivation last night was there. It was a cracking game (for 3.5 quarters) - if I were a neutral I would've enjoyed.

You guys were too good - more skilled players, better under pressure & better tactically.

All we can do is make some bold changes to the list & coaching staff in the off-season and try and improve. Think we are cooked this year unfortunately.

PS I agree - I don’t think there was any issue with motivation. You don’t get that kind of contested footy for that long with no motivation

Surely you have a number given you are one of the best contributors to this thread?
Sorry I've been at work. I'd have it at about a 5/10 atm.

Not too worried about finishing bottom 4 or anything of the sort, teams always been streaky and have a very soft draw. But I think it's quite clear we won't be contending for a flag even if we go on a golden run like in 2023. Still think we're every chance to make the 8 if things go as I expect them to but we'll just be canon fodder for the best teams either way.

In some ways I'm just glad the hacks on our team aren't performing above standard to somehow bait the club into giving them another contract. Players I've been very vocal about for multiple years now.

Hawks are going to be without Lewis or Dear for a large chunk of the season and their midfield is average at best compared to the rest of the league.

I'm tipping they miss the 8 this year as teams will have put some more time into combatting their game plan and their list isn't as strong as some of the other finals contenders + a tougher draw.

As for the Blues imploding? Could happen, but they've got the softest draw in footy next year and far more established talent on their list... So I'd have it as fairly unlikely.

Surely uncovering another couple of quality young mids in Frenchie and Ward …… on top of Newk, Day, Worps, Nash has now elevated the Hawks midfield from average to good
