Unofficial Preview Changes & Pre-match Discussion - RD 4 vs. Carlton. Thur 03/04 @ 7:30pm (MCG)

No he didn't. He gets far less open, is worse in front of goal, and defensively hurts us.

Membrey: 8 disposals, 2 uncontested marks, 2 tackles, 2 score involvements on 81% TOG.

Cox: 8 disposals, 2 uncontested & 1 contested mark, 3 tackles, 3 score involvements on 52% TOG.

I get Tim played well against Port. He was barely “okay” against the Giants and has almost the identical stat line in that game.

I don’t think we know 100% that MMM is the best option yet.

I've got no idea what we are planning regards our forward line and second ruck, but most seemed to think that we'd shifted to the MMM strategy with McStay playing as second ruck. If that's what you believed, that game didn't change that.

I assumed going into the season that yes, we'd be going with Triple M and McStay as second ruck.

At the same time, I didn't see a reason to drop Cox based purely on Friday night.

But as I said, if it's a horses for course then it makes more sense given Carlton only have the one ruck.

Did you watch the game live? Your stats have absolutely nothing to do with what I said

Genuinely curious, why does everyone think Cox is going to be dropped?

I thought he was more than good enough to justify his spot given how we structure up.

Or is it because Carlton only have the one ruck? Like a horses for courses type thing?
He is a good team man, is clearly our second best tap ruckman and tries his best. But … doesn’t have a clue how to lead and leap to take a mark, or how to command the forward fifty.

I don't view dropped the same way as you. I don't think you decide who to drop - you decide who to select. And if we're planning on MMM, Cox was just a place holder for an unfit Mihocek and didn't do enough to change that. So if MMM is the plan - why would it have changed?

I've got no idea what the plan is. Personally, I'd leave out Membrey for Cox myself as I think Elliott gives us a much better version of Membrey for quick entries and Cox makes us more dangerous on slow entries and enables us to lock it in better and attack more dangerously on forward 50 stoppages.

I would think because someone will make way for checkers.

Membrey is a possibility but I prefer we stick to the 3 talls.

I’d love to keep Cox in the side but not sure how to fit him in.

I want WHE back too but same issue

Because Checkers is better.

Carlton’s backline leak goals and our forward line of MMM and smalls offer more scoring opportunities than with Cox.

Also Carlton only play McKay, Cripps or anyone with a pulse in the ruck, so no issues if we use McStay or Frampton as a second ruck option.

The fact that there’s gonna be hard luck stories weekly (if everyone is fit) is a great problem to have.

With Mihocek coming back in you’d think Cox goes out.

That means we will have guys like Cox and WHE at the moment playing VFL footy.
Even Markov who is out of the side currently too.

This is the competition for spots you need.

Now we just need the next batch like Allan, Parker etc to step up and push through.

Naicos is building

Week 0 - 21 disposals
Week 1 - 26 disposals
Week 2 - 39 disposals

Week 3 - 56 disposals.......but only 2 votes as P Cripps....3 votes

The trend is your friend
I make it 60 disposals

Let’s be real

Cripps gets votes just for driving past the ground with the window open

As long as the umpire can hear the acknowledgement, 3 Votes

Since McStay came to the Pies they have played 52 games. Of those only 14 times has Mihocek / McStay played together ( 27%) They are still learning each others in game traits . Now we add Membrey . So our key 3 talls have probably played the least together than the majority of other clubs talls.

Cox / Membrey: I think Fly has made his choice atm to go with the more mobile Membrey, if Mihocek / McStay are in the side. So much more Fwd pressure from those 3.

Mihocek / McStay don’t often get out marked and Membrey is pretty good there as well.

Membrey career Ave : 1.6 Goals, 6 marks , 3 ground ball gets ( which surprised me)
Cox last 4 seasons Ave: .6 goals , 3 marks .

I only see Cox being played if The triple M’s haven’t gelled in the first 8 -10 games or that other reason which I shall not say. Our forward line ball movement has gone past the bomb it up to Cox and let the smalls go to work. Our smalls are more dangerous now in open play

I think Cripps deserves all his votes. I want to agree with you but there's no denying, Cripps was the best player in the comp last year. He's wasted at Carlton

I think guys like Allen and Parker are pretty much already there. Unfortunately, there's isn't a spot for them atm

We could have drafted him, but went with Scharenberg and Freeman instead.
