When Schulz left I’n sure he took a bit of my soul with him.

I think that began to die when we didn't want to renew him in 2015 after a career best 2014, in the end doing a last minute one year deal.

History would say it was a prudent but correct call, but Jay started the season very well and the club was like yeah nah for no reason!

What an absolute disgrace. Other side of the ground but similar to the Wines angle in the Showdown last year.

This Stevie J kicking action from right in front of goals is so ****** s**t. Just drop punt it you *******ers.

Jeez, look at how far he's leaning back on it. It's a wonder the kick registered a score.

With respect to Dixon's leading/marking woes, while coaching (or complete and utter lack thereof) is an obvious culprit, could it be more issues with his vision? Perhaps he needs a different lens prescription? Given that he supposedly went 20+ years without wearing any contact lenses, presumably without many hindrances besides misjudging the flight of the ball, it could be a subtle change.

In fairness he had a busted back, wanted 2 and it fell over. A pity all round. Sarj had an army in his corner personally
I loved 'im.
Man he could thread a needle. Team lifting stuff.

Fell over a lot the cagey ol stager and boy oh boy could he creep around on a mark.
MrC unashamedly loved Schulzy. Always called him gutsy and brilliant. Still today says how we miss him.

Still remember him lining up for that shot to win the Melbourne game that was Dom Cassisi's farewell. He said afterwards he was so nervous because he wanted to win it for Dom, but nerves didn't stop him nailing it.

You can deffs put the poor leading to eye issues. The poor marking is because he's lead into the wrong spot, he's 5m too far forward and is at an awkward angle when trying to mark. As for kicking a goal from 15m out, even if the posts are a bit blurry, a set shot on a slight angle with nobody tackling you should not be a problem. The snap was a poor choice.

Definitely drop punt. The sad thing is though at no point when Dixon is lining up for goal do I ever just expect him to kick it. He could be right in front edge of the box and I still wouldn't be sitting comfortably, which is a shocking indictment on a team's 'full-forward'

As others have said higher up the page. I miss Schulz. One of the best kicks for goal I've seen.

Frequently reading it wrong but it's on the occasions where he does get a shot that I'm concerned. I agree and would say for most set shots it shouldn't be a problem, provided the angle isn't too extreme. When I used to play I'd go back and line up facing centre of goal then I would start the run up, looking that I was going straight toward goal, look down and let muscle memory take over to keep everything as close to the same each time with little variation, kick a drop punt, look up following the flight of the ball after it had left my boot. I was always a low possession getter whenever they pushed me forward but I had an accurate kick at goal and that's all I'm asking of Dixon as a minimum; as long as he's not seeing double his goal sense should see him kicking a lot more of these than he is.

I know we have a serious issue with bombing it in, but what doesn’t help this is when we do have a little bit of time and/or space and Charles just points in the air to suggest ‘bomb it on my head’ rather than leading up at it. Maybe we are coached like this (likely) but he needs to start leading more, as it will inevitably make more space for our other forwards. It’s also a lot harder to double/triple team a bloke on the lead.

Yep, agree. It's an issue with a lot of our forwards, they prefer to play from the back rather than lead up. It was stark on the weekend, the difference between the Lions playing in front, aggressive at the ball and us playing from behind, too worried about the opposition. Some of it is 'craft' and some of it comes down to the mentality you approach the game with.

Wasnt going to post anymore but here goes.
So we have a guy called Dixon who has a leg injury that is equivalent to a car crash victim (according to doctors) and the keyboard warriors cant wait to lay into him after he busted his guts to get back playing in less than a year. He is back 5 minutes and the flippin experts on here ..well Na forget it . BYE

The thing is Dixon had a pretty average 2016 and 2018... it's naive to pin his 2019 so far on injury. Four games in and he's running 2 good 2 bad, a perfect representation of the team.

We paid and traded for a guy that should have a better than 50% hit rate.

And here I go again, I bumped this thread to defend him!

Dixon is such a big strong kick, he should be able to putt it relatively speaking when under 40 metres, and should be practising this at training, it wouldn't put any extra load on his muscles.

Yeah but if we get the ball over the back it is easier to lock it in and get repeat entries.

Much more important than merely kicking goals.
