I'm fine with that. I think we should do it every single year so that players at the Magpies know one of them will get drafted. It will ensure we attract much better quality players to the Magpies and will help the development of all our other kids.

SANFL fans crying that McLennan is going to take us from wooden spooners to a premiership, including Rowey.

Timmy G replied that this has not been a 1 way street. Mentioning all the Port Magpies players in the last 10 years that have been stolen by other SANFL clubs and we get 0 transfer fees.

About time Tim gave a counter reply to cRowie

I wonder what the crying would be if it was Adelaide who signed a Glenelg player?

Other sanfl fans being outraged by this is not too dissimilar to them sooking about the mid season draft. The SANFL is simply a stepping stone to the AFL, how do they not get this? This guy doesn’t have dreams of winning a flag in the SANFL, it would be nice but he wants another crack in the AFL.

He has clearly decided that playing for our SANFL team gives him the best chance of getting another crack in the AFL

Good on him I say.

Yep, bang on. Easy way to get value out of midseason picks that are mostly a waste (apart from Logan Evans, who we got in this exact way)

In fairness, I think we have in the past. It's definitely how we got Luke Surman and exactly why he left after the mid season draft.

Jed Hagan as well.

The point is we didn't draft them. If we made a point of taking one from the magpies EVERY year then the quality of players we attracted would improve significantly.

I was told that he was directed to leave over an incident within that could not be tolerated.

For those marquee players that don't get picked in the midseason draft, I would hope that they have the characters to remain committed and focused to play their best footy till the season finishes. I say this because the occasional player that's almost certain to be delisted sometimes lose their focus towards the end of the season.

Oh wow, I never heard that. I just got told he had a sook for not getting picked up.

There needs to be a flurry of players making afl lists from their second or third year of being a contracted player at any afl club to keep them hanging around. These contracted players are in an environment lacking in comradeship... many of their training sessions are done amongst a handful of players. At stand-alone clubs they train with 30+ others.
