Gil didnt seem like your typical SA bloke though. Seemed like a fancy boy
Some kids can go to a private school without carrying it around with them for the rest of their life, Gil isn't one of them.
Get the feeling he isn't going to come out of the concussion cover up looking too good, jumping before he has to take ownership of that.

I reckon Brendon Gale would be an excellent appointment.

He brings an aspect that has been lacking from much of the AFL’s previous CEO in that Gale brings a perspective from the Clubs.

There is enough experience on the Board to cover all the Corporate Governance.

Brian Cook would have been an ideal appointment a few years back, so in the here and now I would be pleased with Gale if he was to wins the gig.

Of all the names I’ve seen floated so far, Brendon Gale would be the best

Has been a player, the AFLPA head honcho and the current Richmond CEO. That’s a good breadth of experience and understanding of the game. He seems a pretty measured individual and the way he turned Richmond from an absolute basket case into a genuine powerhouse should not be ignored

Cook would have been an excellent choice when Gil was appointed but I think I’ve read/heard him say he isn’t interested. He’s also in his 60’s so I’d imagine they’d be looking for someone younger

It absolutely cannot be someone from within again so the likes of Auld and Dillon can FRO. Ditto Steven Hocking

Agree with all of this Keys. 👍

Can’t in any circumstances be a Dillon, Hocking or Auld.

Opportunity for the AFL to get creative…. I know a big ask, but the nepotism has been a blight in the past and the greater footballing industry needs the AFL to urgently move on from this mindset.

Also with Gale, he is if I remember correctly a lawyer, so it’s not as if he doesn’t bring “corporate world” skills to the AFL. Also his experience in dragging Richmond from the shit house to the penthouse, should put him in a good position to more fuller understand what’s needed by financially struggling Clubs to turn things around.

In pretty much every sport all around the world it’s always a strong, dynamic, proactive front office that leads to on field success.

Didn't mind Gale in that Amazon doco the other year, reckon he would be a good choice.

I like that he hasn’t developed in the AFL house echo chamber. I don’t think that group understands the fan base at all

Gale or someone like him from outside could refocus our controlling body on what’s actually important

If it's not getting your snout as deep in the trough as possible anymore, would it even be AFL House?

Something wrong with having a woman in charge?

People piss and moan about Jackson/Demetriou/McLachlan being rubbish, so it seems apparent that the blokes in charge for the past 30-odd years don't have many fans.

Stop being sexist.
Not if they deserve it. The problem is, the best candidates are only club presidents and board members at best. If a woman gets picked from the list of candidates available then it was 100% an decision based on optics

What on earth...

I'm not saying that a lady isn't the best option i'm just putting it out there I have a vibe for the overall inclusiveness of the AFL that is could very likely be a very strong factor.

Oh and not backing down on the netball coach being a cow or her putting her hand up as a token for attention. (the ridiculous thing being if she does it actually hurts the chances of a well credentialed lady being appointed)
