At what point is it on the man running with the ball to be aware of his surroundings. Ryder did everything he could to pull up and not put him on a stretcher.

Well obviously its Ryder's fault for being 6cms taller and 16 kgs heavier than Day, obviously

Seriously its ridiculous

Hawks bloke deserved a concussion for having no awareness. If you ever played country footy you wouldn't be admiring ya kick after the fact

Ryder deviates off his line and takes a few steps to line him up with the hip and shoulder to the chest and was late
He should have tried to tackle or smother him, you go the bump now and you pay the price if its not perfectly executed.
Or give him a bunch of flowers and a hug, I'm not sure these days.

What?? This is nonsense mate.
Takes a few steps and deviates? He actually takes baby steps and tries to stop.

Tackle him? Yes tackling someone without the ball is how you play footy.

The way people get sucked into explaining how blokes should make different choices when they actually can't is ridiculous.

Watch the footage from 15 seconds in to 18 seconds, he comes in way too fast and then seeks late contact. He could have easily stepped to the side or gone for the smother imo.
Match Review: Paddy cops big whack for Day bump
You cant watch that and tell me he doesnt have time to make a different decision.

You know to smother you have to increase your speed and run at the guy with the ball. My point exactly is that you've had 2 days to look it over and you can't decide what he should do but you're expecting him to get it perfect in 1.5 seconds

Well, I watched the footage 3 times now, not really 2 days.
Lining blokes up after they've already delivered the ball isn't a good option and I'm sure he wouldn't choose to do it again in hindsight.

He didn't line him up. If Patty Ryder had lined him up he'd have been taken off on a stretcher and still be out. Ryder protected himself after a clash was inevitable. Just bloody look at Ryder. He leans down immediately to apologise, I don't remember Byron apologizing after he lined people up

I don't think the clash was inevitable so we'll have to agree to disagree there.
edit - I'm sure the Aints will appeal if they feel hard done by.

As soon as someone is injured or concussed you're f**ked. Simple as that. If the Hawk guy bounced up and was fine, it wouldn't even have been spoken about in any way. It's just the way it is now unfortunately. I'd be livid if this happened to one of our players.

They would still be talking about it, they would be talking hypotheticals.

The Crows AFLW ruck was suspended for the GF over a hypothetical - she bumped, the player got up fine, but it had the potential to hurt so was rubbed out.

It's frustrating because a lot of the tribunal calls seem like a crapshoot, but I'd rather they make calls off what did happen rather than go down hypothetical rabbit holes. If someone gets up fine from a hit/bump, that should mitigate the charge.

First 10 mins perfectly summed up by bucks. Ryder showed a duty of care and was suspended. From now on I hope Ryder jumps sideways away from the person like he's leaving a burning car. Because that's what the AFL wants now.

David King would have loved the suspension. Once he has this sorted he can move onto bringing in a the obstruction rule like in netball. Would sort out a lot of "grey areas" if youre not allowed to be within a certain distance of the ball carrier.

He's going after hangers next. The unnecessary knee to a head in a marking contest. It's going to happen.
