If you had a choice between GWS and Port Power's list as an incoming senior coach, you would easily choose GWS.

Ports main concern is ageing. Port need to retire the 30y+ Boak, Gray, Motlop, Mckenzie and Dixon. They don't need an entire list change over like the Crows did but the the amount of over 30s and very late 20s in the side is starving development opportunities. The only one id keep for an extra year is Jonas.

Below them that will be 27 plus next year are Aliir, Amon, Byrne-Jones, Clurey, Dumont, Fantasia, Finlayson, Lycett, Mayes and Wines.

Over 25y will be Bonner, Burton, Houston, Powell-Pepper, Skinner.

That is an incredibly old list. Thats 3 waves of players who if ports not careful will play too long together and get old at once.

GWS

Over 30s Davis, De Boer, Keeffe, Lloyd, Ward (not as reliant on the old men as Port are)

Over 27s Coniglio, Greene, Haynes, Hogan, Kelly, Kennedy, Pruess, Stein, Whitfield (the stars of the side are still all under 30)

Over 25s Buckley, Flynn, Himmelberg, Hopper, Taranto

Massive difference in squad balance.

Overall a coach looking to build into a successful era and push finals would pick GWS. Port is a sinking ship and you'd be spending the next two years developing and drafting.

The famous catch cry of a destination club by Port has seriously hurt them. Worst decision they made was take Motlop. How that lazy individual gets games is anyones guess.

What's happened to Whitfield, he's gone downhill.
GWS don't look fit, haven't won a last quarter all year
A few players look a bit chubby, like Toby Green

Cameron surely done. Nice to have his influence rounding out our senior coach’s CV after his 6 years under Yes We Ken. If he succeeds, he’s done it whilst swimming against the current.

Seems like Nicks might have been the mastermind around their success???? GWS has been sh*t since he left them after they played in a Grand Final in 2019.

But this was our exact problem - we also held onto our ''experienced'' players too long - we didnt value our 24-27 year olds as much as our 30s

And Kochie is forced to re-signed him for another 3 years like what happened with GCS

Obviously - but try telling that to the ferals. They're so sure they're getting a better coach - what if they get a worse one?

Malthouse proves that getting a name coach does nothing. Even Roos did nothing really at Melbourne. This obsession with luring a name coach is dumb. Plenty of good long term assistants around.

If Port do somehow manage to win this... I bet No We Kent does the big coaches box celebration, but in a "I showed the haters", think Mark Williams with the choking tie thing way.

Totally ignoring the fact that they are 0-5 and still
pretty much the biggest favourites with the betting odds for the round.
