Funny to think the Pies equal with Cats & Hawks with the most GF appearances since 2000, in fact if you include the Drawn GF and the unlosable Preliminary final to GWS in 2019, we would be on 7 and 2 ahead of the next best

We probably are doing something right for all the wrong things this club has served up since the millennium

If we move the measure to flags how do we compare?
PS - the idea of playing in a GF is to win it - not just appear

My son, who is 24 played for Old Carey yesterday.

His unwavering commitment to a beer detox that commenced in 2020 has fuelled his performance to a level high enough that he made the seniors yesterday. He got about 40 minutes of game time, and has the fitness to comfortably run out about 15.

The game took place at the Carey grounds in Bulleen, next to the grounds where my boy would roam with J.Daicos and C.Brown as colts. These days he sports a next-level mullet and has chosen to follow an academic life. His footy is a fun part of his life; he wanted to protect that. Chose not to try out with the Chargers when he got the call along with Josh and Cal.

It occurred that this might be one of the last seasons I get to enjoy watching his lack of match fitness. Savoured every moment.

Went home after the game and cooked a very good chicken and mushroom risotto which is the exact same meal I cooked last Saturday night. Wife and daughter loved it. No need to add the broth/stock bit by bit.

Happy Sunday. X

Beautiful recount J-Man

Now...

You need to get C.Brown over for lunch today

Needs a jathanas pep talk

Get Gav over as well so he sees how it's done

In between mouthsful of risotto, C.Brown needs to be military pressing

Or glue on Josh Thomas' delts

Only you can now turn around The Whipping Boy

Cal, his dad, & granddad are such good men; a nice family. Respectful. No entitlement.

The scorn towards him here cuts deep. I briefly saw him last year, he knows where he stands and the magnitude of his challenges.

I agree with you that he does need help, a reset of sorts. Not sure that some "J" level nourishment and love is enough Walt. :( I would have already offered if it was.

You forgot to mention the architectural wonderment that is the Veneto Club. 10 levels of concrete magnificence in a paddock.

And you my dear Swipey forgot to mention the magnificent fn gondola that sits proudly in front of this concrete goliath, about 200m inland from the muddy waters of the Yarra.

Has the drainage improved at Bulleen yet?

If it hasn't that match fitness might double instantly when he plays on solid ground.

I came across Cal Brown's biggest fan at the Pies v GCS game a couple of weeks ago. A young woman with the sort of booming voice I no longer have, a large bellowing woman, looked liked she could pick Cal up and carry him home.

Sometimes, she just proclaimed her love quite simply. 'I love you Cal!'

Her love often came in the form of instruction: 'Kick it to Cal! KICK IT TO HIM!' The ball carrier, having no doubt heard the order, would also have noted that Cal was at least 75 metres away and wedged between a ruckman and a key defender.

At one stage I heard her 'whispering' to the person next to her (I was 3-4 rows in front of them), 'OMG, if Cal kicks a goal I'm gonna f***en cry'. Sure enough, Cal went on to kick a goal and I think I heard a sob behind me.

I love you too, Cal, but not as much as some.

You don't get as much starchy creaminess if you add the water all at once. It'll still be really nice if the flavours are good though.

Carey ground drainage is OK now. I often wonder how an organisation like Carey has the purse to fund such expensive projects?

Misnomer. Untrue. Old wives tale.

People have tested this, the creaminess is equal with both methods. The rice doesn't absorb more or less when the liguid is added gradually. I do save 1/2 a cup of broth and add it with parmesan and butter in the end.

They cooked risotto in small skillets in the past, this is why the broth/stock (who adds water Savvy?) was added bit-by-bit.

My daughter went to her rowing presentation night on Friday. One of the Year 12 girls has received no less than 13 scholarship offers from the US.
Fair to say the night has motivated my daughter, she’s been on her rowing machine all weekend!

You're probably right that it's shite, but the theory was never about absorption. It was about the rice rubbing together to release more starch into the water, so the rice is in a thicker soup. We tend to prefer drier risottos than the traditional, which is more like a rice porridge, so having a thicker creamier liquid probably means nothing.

My son must be the same age and played with the Boroondara Hawks. You had a few of his ex-teammates from Balwyn Tigers playing with your Colts team.
