Great Move for Freo game in Pushing Wingman Back so it allowed Moore and Howe be more Attacking

I'll be interested to see if it continues in the dry. Rather than making the defenders more attacking, it means that the defenders can play closer to their man as they don't have to protect as much space and our defenders despite all their zoning are generally bloody good when playing on their man.

Our defence was fantastic against Freo, but keeping those wings and half backs in more defensive positions will reduce the slingshot running in a wave that we have been going for. I hope we stick with it, but it does come at an attacking cost and it might have just been a wet weather tactic that we used, because we didn't want to go for those running handball chains

In the dry I think it will be a tactic to shutdown the opposition and arrest momentum.
We then switch to a more attacking structure as and when required.

I think it'll be our starting positions, but the big thing in the dry is that we're likely to once again look for those attacking chains, which does likely mean some horrible turnovers without any of those runners having kept their defensive positioning. Getting that balance right is always going to be really hard.

Retirements, De-listings & Outgoing Traded Players:

Important and relevant. The hard taskmaster, the bottom line leader is a dinosaur; as much as us middle-aged hard-nosed might disagree, they're a dying breed.

McRae has played under Leigh Matthews in a brutal team, but is a man for the times.

Hasn't set a foot wrong for a first year coach IMO and this is most evident to me in the way he communicates after a loss.

I love the way McRae didn't choose to downplay the importance of a clash with an arch rival which so many coaches love to do. Whether it be suburban level or the elite competition, it is completely disingenuous for clubs to pretend some games don't matter more than others regardless of the fact they only give you the same four points for a win.

yes but it wasn't fighting words. He was just kicking the can of honouring the jumper....

generally speaking, his press conference was first rate. He didnt say anything of value. Dwelt mostly with reinforcing the substance in the question, rather than adding anything new, so the 5 minutes was basically made up of mcrae agreeing with the questions.

Notice there was no questions about sam fisher or any other controversial topic. The sports journos know by now that he's not going to say anything quotable.....and isnt that so so refreshing!!

Talk of honouring the jumper is ahead of anything I heard from Bucks!

Also included Roughead's retirement.

another positive is that macrae makes little opportunities to bring people back to the club..... the reference to eddie today was good positive stuff. He's done this a couple of times. It's a good strategy

Without being able to provide links or being bothered to look for them, I’d be thinking you’ve likely missed a bit of what Bucks has said specific to Carlton. Not only as a coach, but as a player and captain.

Bucks was the classic "Oh we are aware this means a lot to the supporters but our build up is no different to any week-every game is important........"

Happy for you to have that recollection and I don’t doubt that over his 20 odd years involved with the club he may well have trotted that response out to the media pack. But I still recall more impassioned responses about the import of Carlton clashes. I just think your post was cheap pointless Buckley bashing for no other reason than having a cheap shot at a club great.

I was told our prevent style football last season was to stop getting blown out and under this new style we'd be in for super ugly losses. Well, we have already matched last seasons win total 11 rounds in and the games are far more enjoyable + scoring with essentially the same forward line has become much easier.

Will be interesting to plot the trajectory of us and the Hawks.

Both started with a new coach at the exact same time.

We wanted Mitchell to coach and would've been in the top 2-3 candidates alongside Fly and Kingsley.

He speaks real...and we are seeing it in the group.
I like how he wants to instil winning habits and behaviours---despite developing at the same time.
Who says you need to be getting spanked by 10 goals plus every week for years on end to be learning and developing?
