Leppa is also our head of “innovation” or whatnot, he looks at where the game is headed tactically.

So maybe he’s planning on turning McStay into some sort of cyborg, kitted out with lasers, hydrogen fuel cells and sonic disruptors?
I, for one, welcome our new cyborg overlord. And I'd like to remind him as a trusted bigfooty poster, I can be helpful in rounding up trolling Carlton fans and Buckley maximalists to toil in his underground plutonium caves.

You want to pay 600k x 5 years for a decent AFL player? I use that term loosely as a forward here. We have had 8 years to judge here.
Here is some more logic back at you. How about holding that 600k x 5 years & have a crack at one of the quality forwards on next years & beyond free agency periods. Because if one decides to leave their club for more dollars & we can't fit him in our cap then everybody will understand why McStay (as a forward on 600k) is not a good decision. If we are bringing him as a defender I wouldn't be as bewildered.
This is not a video game. McKay ain't leaving the Blues for us, and elite forwards rarely leave in free agency (2 I can think of and both location moves).

Discussing contracts amounts and salary cap issues makes no sense for me, giving noone but the club actually knows where that sits.

Tom Lynch was grabbed by the Tigers in free agency. So was Franklin to the swans. Cameron was matched & he got to his club of choice through trade.
In the mean time we have brought Q stick, Jessie White & now perhaps McStay. We should aim higher & not accept mediocrity. We aren't the Eddie boys club anymore & opposition players will eventually realise it's going to be a great place to play footy. We will again be a club of choice very soon.

This is our participation in free agency since it started. Doesn't read well & it appears we have learned nothing at all. But apparently we should keep doing the same sh!t & hope it turns out different. We have been a retirement cash cow for average players.

COLLINGWOOD

GAINED: Chris Mayne (Fremantle), Quinten Lynch (West Coast), Daniel Wells (North Melbourne), Clinton Young (Hawthorn)

LOST: Nathan Brown (St Kilda), Alex Fasolo (Carlton), Dale Thomas (Carlton)

Leppa has found the problem, McStay has been set to good this whole time.

Yep a whopping 2 players of which 1 went to Sydney. So we missed out on Tom Lynch. I agree that was shit but we can't change that now. Fox Sports clickbait aside, very few elite players have moved clubs apart from moving cities. Which interstate forward is elite and coming into free agency?

Clearly my points are completely valid and beyond rebuttal.
Our salary Cap CAN’T afford a $5 mill hit for a Gun KPF, but getting McStay at $3 mill and sending Moore fwd saves $2mill to potential get the same result.
It’s a very simple solution, that you clearly had not thought through before offering your impulsive and misguided derision.

Pretty sure Fly has said he wants Moore to stay a defender.

None until end of next year. So we draft one, and go after them. We don’t just get overpay for a mediocre forward because he’s all that’s available. That’s what we’ve always done, and why we always remain in this position

As long as Leppa doesn’t think that he’s really getting McBain, and we can pay him in UNICEF pennies.

Comparing McStay and our own M Cox, you get basically the same player statistically:

McStay – 5.5 kicks, 4.2 marks, 0.8 goals a game.
Cox – 5.2 kicks, 3.9 marks, 1.1 goals a game.

And I actually really like what Cox brings, I'm just not sure I'd like it as much on $600k per year for 5 years.

Okay I'll do the research for you. Why are you keeping it to interstate forwards? It's not our only need.
Hipwood - RFA after next year (forward)
Charlie Curnow - RFA after next year (forward)
Harry Mckay - RFA after next year (forward)
Himmelberg - RFA after next year (forward or backman)
Sam Weideman - RFA after next year (forward)
Ben Mckay -RFA after next year (backman - maybe forward?)
Charlie Dixon - RFA after next year
Jeremy Mcgovern - UFA after next year
Tom Doedee - RFA after next year

Which one of these would you pick McStay over? Would they be difficult to get? Absolutely. More expensive than 600k? Absolutely.
But I'd rather put more money & time into players that will defintely improve us rather than role players who we over pay & will not.

This is only forwards & backs. There are some good mids like Hopper coming out of contract & available for RFA then as well.

The problem with this list is that they’re all after next year.

We don't have to take one in the coming trade & FA period. We can save the dollars for the next one. Plan ahead.
McStay is best 22 in a top 4 club. Him coming over he won’t all of a sudden make us s**t.
He won't improve us either. That is after all the idea of bringing in new talent.

Did Connor Blakely from Freo ever play as an inside mid?
No links to him, but an article suggesting that he should look for a start elsewhere.
Could he offer us anything or is he not worth discussing?

No not as good. Nor Cox where gets out marked a lot. Or Cameron who doesn't have the mobility to get to as many contests as McStay. It's McStay's main selling point.
His marking is his one wood*

*sorry, just wanted to use that expression, seems to be in vogue.
Although, if you saw my one wood it would definitely not be a selling point!

Going to disagree with you there. Sorry, but I’ve watched McStay closely for a month or so now, and just don’t see it.
