Back in your boxes - now is NOT the time for a board challenge!

They would need a very public and largely adored figurehead.

They would also need to be campaigning for it amoungst the rank and file.

Largely our supporter base is apathetic until there is an actual crisis and then when there is our mettle is unquestionable.

Even if they secured a very public and largely adored figurehead, let's say a premiership player or coach, this person would probably be able to pick off a lower profile board member, but how does that help? They get one person on the board who was just a figurehead, while the 3 or 4 men of the 90s get slaughtered in the vote and don't get onto the board. How does that help their cause?

That was pretty smart. Shuts down any noise about what's going on. Takes the wind out of any alleged challenge that might come and gives her a chance to respond to any good ideas he brings by implementing them or some aspect of them.
Certainly, if Mark Dawson is simply wishing to contribute ideas or suggestions or even to offer guidance or advice, then it appears that Sonja has respectfully left the door open. But if it is just a grab for power, then it will be seen as such by the members, especially if he is unwilling to contribute to the club without strings attached such as a walk-up spot on the board for himself and enough numbers to take control.

Only just caught up with Sonja’s Hun interview - she makes a point of including Mark Dawson in the dozens of great NMFC people she has sat down and chatted with about how to improve the club since taking up the job, only mentions a few by name and he is one. They should give her a chance to take feedback on board.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer...

So now its gone from full control of the board and Presidency to begging for two spots.

This ego driven crap is the LAST thing we need while negotiating with Clarko.

The old blokes need to stand down asap.

I see you liked my post giantroo - mate, as the North supporter with probably the biggest reach of all on social, how do we get the message out there to the old blokes that they need to drop off ... and now?

I was actually thinking about posting something when the news dropped. I've posted something now. Hopefully the message gets through.

Really bad timing. Especially as we appeared to be in the box seat to sign Clarko just a couple of days ago. These idiots have jeopardised that and will be held responsible if he signs with another club. Then they will never get anywhere near the board as long as they live.

If it's true that they started out demanding control of the board and the presidency and now they are begging for two spots on the board, they've really shown their hand. They could nominate for the board at the next AGM if all they want is two spots - let the members decide. But they clearly know they don't have the numbers and they wanted to bypass the election process and be handed two spots like the bad old days when they were kings.

I look at the make-up of our Board and I feel there are certainly changes that need to be made. This is not the right timing though.

Sonja is absolutely spot on with her comment that Government is pushing for minimum of 40% female representation on Boards in order to access funding. We currently have two women on the board, the CEO and Marketing expert (Suzana Ristevski). This will need to increase to three if we want to seriously lobby for Government cash.

My view is that a good Board needs a wide variety of skillsets, consisting of:

Finance/Commercial
Strategy
Legal
Marketing and Communications
People & Culture - this is a skill that looks to be lacking at a Board level

Sporting Clubs have long had issues with wanting to appoint past players to their Boards that quite frankly add little value in terms of strategic decision making. It'll be an unpopular view, but I don't see the fit with Stevo (or Arch for that matter) on the NMFC board. I'd much rather have someone with experience running a successful club (as opposed to playing in one) on the board. I'm not advocating for Dawson as I cannot forgive his GC push, but someone of that calibre would have more to offer than a past player. I wouldn't even consider Trainor as we already have extensive Marketing experience on the board.

When it comes to the on-field stuff, this needs to be handled by the Executive reporting to the board via the CEO. As has rightly been pointed out in several other threads, this brings the roles of Brady Rawlings (GM Football Talent) and Dan McPherson (GM Football Performance) firmly into the spotlight.

Massive Unit, it's fascinating that you would nudge Anthony Stevens off the board given that there are people around here (and one who doesn't post anymore) who are of the view that the board needs substantially more football players.

As I said, it would be an unpopular opinion. My view is that Football Clubs are businesses and need the appropriate governance to run them.
I have no issues with past players sitting on the board, providing they bring an appropriate skillset to the role.

What does Stevo for example bring to the board as opposed to what he could contribute to the football department?

These two need to stand for the election at the next AGM and accept the verdict of the members. If the NMFC board operates on the basis that it totally controls who can stand then we are not a member based club.
I accept that there is an approval process in place now but this should only exist to stop totally unsuitable candidates based on set criteria.

It would be pretty funny if they got back on the board and the members just voted them out at the next AGM.
To be able to vote them out, we would require other suitable candidates to exist.

How about Emma Kearney? She's our inaugural AFLW captain and has been associated with our club prior to the AFLW starting.
Not necessarily to replace Anthony Stevens but to meet government requirements for funding.

There is no criteria available to members as far as I know.
