Did some quick and dirty stats. It's quite telling to be honest. These are calculations based on where the opponent was ranked at the start of the round (so excludes Round 1 and Finals).

Clearly, the damning stat is with the exception of 2014 and 2020, we play finals on the back of beating more B10 vs T8 teams.

Calculations should only factor on where a team finished. Not where they were at the start of a round.

You could lose the first 3, and still finish top and but then you wouldn't categorise any of those early season games as having been played against a top 8 side. Which wouldn't be right.

Agree with this. It also throws up rubbish stats for the first 5-6 rounds.

Couldn’t be bothered having a look to see if this was done yet, but this one is pretty straight forward.

Coaches with most games and zero flags
Rodney Eade 377
John Northey 315
Ross Lyon 305
Bob Rose 282
Terry Wallace 247
Gary Ayres 223
Neale Daniher 223
Nathan Buckley 218
Brad Scott 211
Ken Hinkley 203

Of those coaches only 3 haven’t made a GF
Terry Wallace
Brad Scott
Ken Hinkley

Excluding finals, should Ken see out his contract he’ll have 247 games total

To me, rewarding a club employee with contract extensions, while the very real and likely possibility of falling short loomed, given our trajection, is proof enough that for a while now our club hasn’t been any more different than the ‘plastic franchises,’ we like to air superiority over.

In my opinion, harking back to long dead club ethos like ‘we exist to win premierships,’ makes me squirm and is like a loose propagation of confirmation bias that robs from the legacy of a club we no longer are ideologically. The club has lost its balls and I won’t be renewing until it shows that it has found them.

Maybe a bit dramatic, but seeing Melbourne win burnt me, and I didn’t expect it to. All I could think about was how 10 years ago at AO we were both rubbish and we barely beat them to avoid the spoon, they looked dogshit while we turned it around some time after, and they still beat us to a flag. F*****g shameful.

has any one got a list of assistant coaches that Ken has had while being senior coach who ended up leaving ?

and a list of players who has come to the club and since gone ?

ken doesnt just go GOALLESS all the time. Sometimes he goes big. Real big.

Ken Hinkley SCORELESS QUARTERS

We have recorded 11 scoreless quarters in our AFL existence. Two in dark days of 2011. One in our first season of 1997. Big Kenny has 5 on his own.

Since 2013 every teams record vs top 8 sides as at the end of the H&A year. Who is the odd one out?

Amazing because Richmond has only bee good since about 2016, Collingwood have spiralled down then up, Freo has been a non entity since 2013, GWS had three good seasons, yet all have a similar record.

Geelong and WC are pumped up by the home ground advantage but they, Hawthorn and Sydney all show what is achievable.

CLOSE GAMES RECORD (12pts or fewer)

(PAFC) Hinkley - Close Games.PNG

2013, 2020, and 2021 are the only seasons with more wins than losses.

In the other SEVEN seasons, we had a losing record.

P.S.: In R3 2022, the actual difference was -4.

What's WLK and the -44 diff in 2022?

In 2019 the stats I generated were: 1660702064032.png

But these stats were from 2015 onwards.

The cliff at the end of 2014 was a clear turning point. Hinkley had got us some initial gains but we had blown our premiership favouritism in 2015, so I feel like that as the first year of failure is the most appropriate time to begin assessing him from.

So when we play away from home:

30 games - 9 wins, 21 losses (30% win rate)

And when we play at home:

28 games - 15 wins, 13 losses (53.6% win rate)

Cool.

When we play away from home, since 2015:

20 games - 6 wins, 14 losses (30% win rate)

When we play at home:

23 games - 12 wins, 11 losses (52.2% win rate)

All these stats tell me is that a) home ground advantage is a real thing when it comes to a close game and b) Port doesn't get the same leg up that other teams do in those games, since our win rate is only a little over 50% whereas other teams win rate against us in close games at their home ground is 70%.

That Home v Away split is very interesting. I'd be interested in seeing the numbers broken down by margins at 3/4 time. It's felt like since that early Ken bubble we've had a lot of those comebacks where we're 4-5 goals down late in the third and get it back to under 2 goals before jussssst failing to get there. That would inflate the losses in close games stat for games that actually weren't that close, we just made it respectable with a fake comeback.

To me that sounds more like the thing that tribey's always banging on about: that we seem to melt under expectation. Considering our total 58.5ish% win rate under Ken you'd expect the close game stats to be better than that, especially at home. We're worse in a close home game than we are in a general randomly selected game home or away.

2022 v Gold Coast (H) - leading by 13 at 3/4 time (won by 2)
2022 v Fremantle (A) - trailing by 34 at 3/4 time (lost by 8)
2022 v Geelong (H) - leading by 7 at 3/4 time (lost by 12)
2022 v Collingwood (A) - trailing by 17 at 3/4 time (lost by 6)

6 times we've been down by 4+ goals at 3/4 time and did the false rally thing. The other 19 matches we lost, we genuinely had a shot to win and it could have gone either way.
