Those sides he mentioned MADE you believe in them.
Because they believed they could always win.
The current side folds like a wet cardboard box in pressure moments way too much to beleve in them.
That's the essential difference!
This is the crux of it. The Port I grew up watching that he's talking about here were so good across the board and had so much swagger, you never doubted they could win from anywhere. It may not have been fact, but because of their dominance it felt like an anomaly when we lost. It didn't sting much at all, it just kind of felt like "huh.... well there you go". You knew next week / next year it would back to our winning ways. That was hard earned. Jack knew what it was worth to the supporters AND his players. We all wore it like a suit of armour. We didn't just have clutch players, we were a clutch team.

And that’s ultimately what we all hark back to. A confident, well-drilled team, that knows how to meet the moment head-on and execute under the hottest, brightest spotlights.

Not the alleged [patronising/disingenuous] belief that We ShOuLd WiN a fLaG eVeRy YeAr!!11

Urgh, I’m choking on my own bile-marinaded disillusionment.

Got to wonder whether player feedback that saw Polec and Wingard sacked for being slightly unique has also been a trigger for watering down of ambitions like existing to win premierships. Nothing would surprise in this day and at this club.

I'm sure Cahill talked up the opposition and opined that we had a long way to go to be like North/West/South Adelaide, but I'm struggling to remember it.

We did have a long way to go to be Pamfers. It was just in the other direction.

As a younger bloke going out to the huddles I learned some new words and saw grown men avoid eye contact with the great man when he eyeballed them because they knew they were letting him down. He didn't need to yell and scream. He was stern and serious when it was required. Blokes that weren't giving it their all felt shame because the Port Adelaide Football Club WAS BETTER THAN THAT and everyone out there knew it. To the Alberton crowd , Dickens be damned, Great Expectations was what you put on with your socks and jocks on game day and you were rarely disappointed.

Rucci’s latest propaganda piece invoking the 1994 Grand Final against Woodville-West Torrens, the 1996 Prelim against Norwood, the 1977 Grand Final against Glenelg, and even the 1936 decider against Sturt as part of the “sometimes you just gotta believe” theme.

I guess it’s okay to divert from the patronising “iT’s NoT tHe SaNfL aNyMoRe” gaslighting strategy if you’re struggling for content.

The 'memberberries to the supporters to try to distract from how bad we are now. Mentions the ledger after the 2013 Showdown +3 but that just reminds me of how we, in the intervening years, fell to -2 for no real reason e.g. like being a bottom team in the comp. And of course they squeeze in someone saying that success since round 5 is due to the coach; he was still coach in that first few weeks so they should mark him with that in mind.

Anyone caught any of Travis Boak's mini Doco?

Wow.

Grass Growing and Paint Drying are more interesting.

i'm quite sure Wingard was traded simply because he has a winning mentality, which doesn't gel with our current regime. imagine how scared Ken would be of a guy like that, who wins games off his own boot

You are certainly waging a one man campaign against Trav. Have you firebombed the Mosely yet?

Have you seen it? There seems to be very little point to it? Travis is actually quite a boring guy.

Sliding Doors this week is vomit inducing. How this club has changed the narrative of GF or failed season to ‘Kenny’ being a master to resurrect a failed finals bid from 0-5 is one of the worlds greatest gaslight feats.

Comparing him John McClane is just laughable

Cletus the slack jawed yokel from The Simpsons is far more accurate

*no offence to the real Cletus

"Momentary lapse" Would that be the entire second quarter where we were blown away or the last quarter where we yet again couldn't defend a lead? 🤔

It’s spelt HINKLEY

To no one’s surprise, despite our chances of finals going from high unlikely to almost impossible, because it is still possible the club still is gaslighting us we’re still fighting. Now 2 games and percentage, so effectively three games with only 4 round left. With two other sides between us and 8th to boot. Call it as done and either admit coach useless gets off the hook despite ‘GF or busy’ (and watch memberships tank) or sack him.

Given the direct line these guys have to the club, I reckon it's fair enough to include this amongst the propaganda.

I wouldn't be super critical as he usually says what he feels about Port Adelaide on his Youtube channel. He tries to be optimistic but does show pain when the loses have been embarrassing and is not impartial to criticising Ken either.

I've only seen his defences of the club, so I will have to take your word for it.
