I don't see a reason for mass changes, a lot went wrong over the preseason that was not a result of poor planning and implementation of programs.

The existing team and facilities are elite, experienced with the club and we don't need cluster* of total change. New people will be added to the team, these teams aren't single individuals, they are rehab teams, strength and conditioning teams.

Keofed has been there for as long as I can remember (2008?), he was the one to take us from the the disasters of 2008 and 2010 to how many finals series? 2 grand finals, top 4 after the spoon in 2011. There are a lot of KPIs he and his assistants would be hitting to warrant a contract extension.

A lot went wrong over covid that is just starting to correct, including managing the soft cap, 'sack the xx' is lazy and short sighted.
I think this is a measured post. Sometimes with teams of people, just bringing in the right person or getting rid of the wrong person makes a huge difference to overall performance (as Opposed to changing out whole departments).

I really hope the playing group are professional enough to come to preseason at a reasonable level of fitness. If they are not, then they are the ones who need a clean out.

Turning up to the club fit after holiday should be a minimum expectation from professional sports players. If they do not, they should be sent away from the club until they meet standards. I believe this has been done with players in the past.

Jeremy "Chicken Skin" McGovern springs to mind...

There's probably way too much talk on Robertson.

I personlly don't think he is coming this year. He's contracted so Brisbane will want too much, we're unlikely to give his worth with us wanting to hit the draft.

Come this time next year though:
  • If he has a good year, he'll probably resign anyways and we don't even have the discussion.
  • If he has a so-so year, might just be another SPS situation whereby he comes to us for say an early third rounder to get more opportunities.
  • If he has a poor year, we don't give up anything for him as we will get him for free or not at all.

West Coast is set to stick with the same support staff personnel for the 2023 season the disappointing year just gone the club has faced.

That’s according to veteran Western Australian journalist Kim Hagdorn, who said a meeting on Thursday between management indicated support staff were likely to hold their jobs.

The Eagles suffered a shocking run with injuries throughout 2022, particularly earlier in the year, which led to spluttering momentum and just a two-win campaign.

West Coast had 14 players on its injury just days out from Round 1 and required top-up players to get through the early parts of the season.

“West Coast had a meeting today (Thursday) with all their top footy people and looking at the business plan, all indications are there’s going to be a massive reprieve for all the support staff,” Hagdorn told SEN WA’s Drive.

“Warren Kofoed - strength and conditioning manager, will stay, Glenn Stewart (high-performance manager), the doctors, the physiotherapists (will all stay).”

Drive co-host Peter Vlahos replied: “I thought there was going to be a clean out”, to which Hagdorn added, “Didn’t everybody?”

“But it looks very much as though Trevor Nisbett (West Coast CEO) is tipped to endorse them to be given the one last chance to get this right next season.”

The Age journalist Caroline Wilson said earlier this year West Coast had endured the worst off-season of all 18 clubs “by a million miles”, and Hagdorn suggested the Eagles didn’t return fit for the year.

He added there’s a similar fear for 2023.

“The concern is at West Cast that all these blokes who couldn’t cope with pre-season training last year because they came back late and came back unfit… (will do the same again)” Hagdorn said.

“My understanding is Adam Simpson is very concerned with the time off, they’re off for eight weeks now, come back December 4, so all these old blokes then train for three weeks then have another three weeks off over Christmas, (the club is) concerned about whether they’re going to be able to get themselves fit and healthy on their own.”

West Coast has committed to a rebuild under Simpson, and the premiership coach will expect an injection of youth for the 2023 season.

The club currently has picks 2, 20, 26 and 38 in the upcoming National Draft. They’re also expected to land Port Adelaide’s compensation pick for the departing Karl Amon if the Power trade for forward Willie Rioli.

Im surprised they left out haggers saying that we should delist brayden ainsworth, like seriously your a WA footy journalist and your saying for the club to delist a player that was delisted last year 😂 also said we should delist Luke Edwards which seems a bit mind boggling

Thought the ruckman, Fort, for the lions last night went OK, hope we are looking at bringing in someone like that. someone who can just compete in there, and not get smashed.

Daniel Rich, little bugger is a damn good player, seems to take his time in contests, but still so often gets away a decent possession, he has done well over the years.

This was entirely predictable 😡
Worse season ever, and all of our long term staff are retained. Credits in the bank

West Coast doing West Coast things

99% of them are just workers. What we need is one elite person to lead in the sports science area - and they may not be in the country. AFL isn't as professional and many believe.

Next years draft is stacked with Ruckman was has at least 5 good prospects

Here is futbolista comments

Ok thanks......I'll keep the list as it is for now but have pushed Aiden Riddle up quite a bit. Every time I watch him he's better than the last time. I guess if I understand things PSA players born July-Dec 2005 will still play school footy next year so won't see much of him in 2023 but he's exciting.

So incredibly WA have Coen Livingstone (P), Mitch Edwards (PT), Aiden Riddle (CL), Evan Smith (SD), Luker Kentfield (S) and Eden Gomersall (P) all ruck/KP in one year.

On the other hand.

Shame WA doesn't have many key defenders - especially if Daniel Curtin (CL) is spending time forward, Xavier Walsh (EP) not playing a single colts game and Kobe Austin (EF) with injury concerns.
Livingstone can play back, he looked good at chb. At 199cm I think he's more key position than ruck, but still young so could grow. Unfortunately think he's too good to last to pick 40.

Luker Kentfield already Dark Sharks favourite.

Would the dogs take Barass + Vardy as a sweetener?

Bruhn is OOC which swings things. Unfortunately if we rate Dev we have to pay overs or hedge our bets he doesn't chop up in 2023 with Ashcroft coming in

We need diamonds in the rough like O'Driscoll now, not Dev.

If Robertson becomes another Stenglien type then all well and good and we can make a play for him whilst we are on the rise as cherry on top of a contender.

just glad Melbourne lost last night not sure how to rate Robertson as he didn`t really do anything worth noting but playing away in a high pressure final with limited games experience it could probably be forgiven as a learning experience ,,

With the way they’ve done in the finals and with more gametime likely next year, DevRob should opt to stay anyway.
The general thought (and I think the whole reason Dev was ever brought up as gettable) is that he will get less time, or less access to time in the side (certainly in his preferred position) in 2023.

Ashcroft will push him down the order, and if Dunkley comes into the side as well it would make sense for him to look around.
