If Freo land Pickett and Bolton and don’t win a flag within the next 5 years they may as well just shut shop and leave the AFL

the list they have currently should've finished top 8 anyway

if they add those 2 and don't finish top 8 they should sack the entire coaching department

Well they have traded themselves out of what the last 3 first rounds, and next year almost certainly too.

And before that picked up Erasmus.

So they will want to. A lot to risk on a couple of ‘really good when they are on’ players who play pretty similar. Could pay off.

Not like the teams above them won’t also get better too though, so they are trying to catch up to the hill not get over the top of it.

Doing the right thing though I reckon.

How well has that worked for Carlton and their so called success.

IMO Priddis had just as much impact with the same drawbacks.
We need a player who'll roll up their sleeves and do the dirty work. Get bulk possessions ,regardless of their speed. Ppl are saying Langford is slow but he could be just the player we need.

Did anybody else see the article about us trying to get Hurn out of retirement? It was behind a paywall but the heading made out as though we want him to play on again :/

We "need" players who do it all. You can carry one super slow mid of they tackle well but the others have to pick up the slack on the outside.

Take the best, and this year it's an open question. Smillie is that guy,( Will Brodie ) and might be there around #10. No point reaching

If we were to split and go back a couple spots id pick him over Lalor comfortably for this reason. Less excitement but better fit imo

dajesmac with the shit mail 😳

Oh, you guys fell for that? Pfft. God you're gullible.

Real answer: All I got told was that WC had offered Steely a deal a few months back. He's been real happy with Richmond and being in Melbourne generally from what I've been told, and was never homesick or anything like that.

He's had a real good rapport with those at Richmond and their feedback on him was really positive and that they see him as a long term player. Eventually it got to the point where what they were saying wasn't matching what they were doing - when the injury crisis took hold and Green wasn't getting games he was a bit like WTF. This was around the time WC made contact.

Not long after I posted that Green broke into the AFL side and played some decent footy to end the year. Once I saw that I figured he had no reason to come to WC. Personally, I thought it only made sense if A) we were unexpectedly ruthless with list spots and B) he wasn't going to be offered a spot at Richmond, so I'm not surprised at all to see him accept a deal to stay.

That’s what I was thinking it’d take

He’s still only 23 so worth a look

Better option than Baker
I'll be honest, outside of my own club, I've lost a lot of passion in watching other teams: The way the game has headed.

Pickett, another forward, as talented as he may be....

It's mids, mids and more mids we need. And a ruck. And wingers and elite half bank flankers and developing KP young backs.

IMO

I am with you on not wanting to give much for Baker but knowing the club, we usually only pitch to a player hard when we are keen to get them and we usually get them
This is why I’m pretty certain it’ll get done too.

I’d be much more receptive to the trade if baker had any elite traits, was ageing into his peak instead of out of it or wasn’t likely going to cost us the shot at one of the top echelon KPDs or an HBF with seemingly elite foot skills we so badly need.

But let’s see how it pans out.

I now rate Langford above Smillie.

This could be the most downvoted post in history but here goes

If we suspect Reid isn’t going to stay it out, is now the year to move on? Richmond will have 3 top 10 picks and Baker wanting to head our way…. So… would we do

Pick 1,6,9 and Baker for Reid
No it's next year. I want Dyson sharp

Dyson sharp ceiling is Matt Rowell his floor is Matt Rowell.

Better floor then Harley but no slouch in ceiling.

In other words it's peak JHF (Harley) vs peak Rowell (Dyson). So even a straight swap of pick 1 for Harley isn't a huge loss. That's how good Dyson is

Would you go back 12 months and take McKercher and Duursma for Reid?

If Freo get their targets this year they won’t have the money for The Chad next year. I’d be having a very frank discussion with Chad about his intentions next year. If he’s adamant he’s coming back to WA (to WCE) I think it’s worth approaching this draft in terms of player selection with that in mind.

If we’d done that trade I would have split 3 with the Demons for 6 and 11 and taken McKercher, Curtin and Windsor/Wilson.

But I’d still take Harley 100 times out of 100.
