I get it, but that’s the reality; as far as I know, the AFL is the only elite competition on the planet where the fixture is rigged by the governing body for its financial benefit, so the draft isn’t the only thing determined by corporate priorities

As Bengrina stated, that’s why I don’t really follow the AFL anymore, I pretty much just watch North because I love them. The comp has no integrity.

This part, “The AFL needs a second team in Qld for the broadcast deals, and Suns could not be allowed to fail.”
Is what annoys me the most, it’s not a level comp, it’s a business.

Look at this years Grand Final, the Swans are given more via their academy then any southern side for the purpose of making more money, and as a result are constantly in the finals and we’re supposed to eat up “Bloods Culture” as the reason….and they still sook about not getting extra money in their cap.

It should just be an even playing field, but some teams get more then others.
Leave the Bloods culture out of this. I quoted an article recently that stated the Bloods and their culture has only 18 players who have played at the highest level from their academy.

Hardly a leg up 🙄. We’ve had a few I think. One is a few isn’t it ?

Jeez is it really 18? Far out. One of them is a son of a 350 game player who only played footy because of the academy🤷🏻‍♂️

I know the PP's are underwhelming, but assuming it is legal we can show a bit of ingenuity and improve our draft hand a fair bit.

For example if you slightly overpay for a player like Bedford with a Rnd 2 PP and then get the Dees 2023 Rnd 2 in return they get a pick 20ish for a player they would lose for not much and we get the Dees pick next year...do a similar move with the Saints for a salary dump and get Hill for the Rnd 3 PP and the Saints 2023 2nd rounder...I know it wouldn't work exactly like that and the players might change but my point is if we try to make sure we get something back when we trade away these picks than we could give ourselves a much better draft hand for next season.

Something like the above would give us three 2nd rounders in 2023 which is either a great draft start for next season or a good way to trade back into the upcoming draft.

Apparently so and as Andy Demetrioo stated it isn't a Pasadena for success.
Yes the reptile would have been sunning himself on the side of a road had it not been for the academy.

I don't really care about our lack of PP's, I just want a level playing field. And that I know will never happen. And I know why farking ! Doesn't make it any less annoying FYFI

Anyone tell me how the salary cap swapping works, can you just sell your left overs to say a Geelong to help them maintain a strangle hold on the comp, or does it actually need to involve trades?

And I don't like it one bit fwifw.

I’d be going full campaigner mode now and walking Logue through the preseason draft unless they except the future 2nd & 3rd. If Freo don’t like it they can blame the AFL.

Same. I’d like to see us go out of our way not to use the picks as demanded by the AFL. Best ways I can think of are to walk Logue then use the 2 future picks to trade for two of the youngest, worst spuds on other lists that will be lucky to get a game in the VFL and combine them with good draft picks this year which we use to recruit 18 year olds only. They don’t want us competitive off these picks so they can sit and spin on it whilst we recruit more kids and cut more depth.

I’d also be pointing out we couldn’t get anything decent for these picks at every opportunity.

Good, any relation to Father Gerard Dowling? Maybe we could get him under some bizarre religious rule.
Am sure the AFL could make that work for a few clubs.

Oh well.
Former club historian - shared surname rule. I'm sure there's been more tenuous links in the past.

Nah, they'll be too busy getting Tasmania sorted and compromising other teams.

Yep. This is why we need to to establish our young list ASAP we need to have drafted what we need over the next 2 drafts so we are on the up rather than getting our picks gutted while building as happened last time.

BREAKING: AFL grants Sydney priority access to Harry Shezel based on the semi-rhyming connection to John Longmire's love of Cheezels (more to come)

Those 2 might actually look good compared to some of ours.

The picks are okay. That is not the issue in my opinion. The issue is that we have to trade them this year or lose them, which means other clubs we may deal with in a trade, know our hands are tied. The power in any potential, trade, lies mainly with that other c!ub, meaning we may not get full value.
Certainly that's a dynamic we could do without, but there is a countervailing one, and that is the number of clubs looking for points in next year's (supposedly strong) draft, which should set up some competitive tension

We’re getting hated on and slammed for receiving this assistance by opposition nuffs so why not push back to the AFL and demand the equivalent of what the Suns received.
Either way the football world was always gonna sook and have a cry so we should have dug our heels in and not accepted this offer. This will be the last bit of assistance that we will receive for a long time if ever again.

But you just watch the Suns, Giants or Carlton struggle again and the AFL will justify pick 2, 3 and 19 for them. It’ll happen.
This league and competition is flawed.

Yep, it's Sportotainment and not a genuine competition.

Part of me wishes we would tell Gil to stick his package picks up his a***, but the reality is we will take the crumbs and move on.

Very interested to know how the negotiations played out?. I have no doubt we would have presented to the AFL based on GC PP bonanza. I wonder if we at least got the honest answer from them saying that GC only received that much because they need to make them competitive for their survival. I would much rather be told that as the club than to hear some bul*ht.
This only makes me want to see these plastic clubs fail even more.

I was there and can confirm this is what we were told.

It’s also “tied to our pick” so if we finish last we lose the valuable first pick on day 2 as the priority will be before our pick. What a joke.
Are you sure? So it means next year if we’re 18th again the picks are 19 and 38 and we get stuck with 20 and 39 lol
