Yeah, that exactly what I am suggesting. It's the place of a club welfare officer to fully explore the issues with a player and help him or her make the best decisions being fully aware of all the issues and consequences. Not for the coach to make assumptions and tell them to cut off their spouse/parent/siblings/cousins.

And as suspected you've got no direct experience of issues with indigenous communities requiring the intervention of white saviours, and are just talking out your arse based on word of mouth and a trip to Midland.

Nah, grew up in Armadale mate.

Not the Armadale your college boy Greens Party mates grew up in either.

Trot along.

I'm fairly sure Burt, who was named multiple times in the article, was their equivalent of a welfare officer (player development manager).

Yes he was. Named in this article

Around two months ago, Frank and Hawthorn's welfare manager Jason Burt travelled to Adelaide for a week and put things in place for 2014.

Excellent, thank you GR, it's good to have clarification on that.

Pretty sure I saw yesterday on his linked in that he's now Hawthorns manager of people and culture.

Not sure how he is escaping questions.

He was. If true, it seems to show a massive failure of the systems in place at Hawthorn and he was far too beholden to the views of Clarkson.
Or, assuming the article is completely accurate, it's possible he briefed Clarko prior to the meetings and this wasn't just Clarko firing from the hip.

Oh geeze you must have seen some things. No doubt your experiences at Armadale SHS have given you a great perspective into the issues facing First Nations people throughout Australia.

"Head of Player Services & Football Administration Manager" sounds a bit more generic than a player welfare officer. His background is as a teacher I take it?

Some facts.

- The ABC report that shocked all of us was an interview of the family of 3 former players conducted by ABC Sport

- Earlier this month, the Hawks engaged external First Nations consultants to liaise with current and former indigenous players and staff to learn more about there experience. The completed report highlighted historical allegations and was forwarded to the AFL integrity unit by the Hawks.

Two perspectives…….

One completed by a professional consultancy that specialises in indigenous programs. In terms of scope…..current, former players and staff were interviewed. It is wide reaching and I would imagine capture objectively the good, the bad and the ugly.

The second, by an ABC sports journalist who interviewed three former players and there families.

The ABC report while I’m sure contains factual content that will line up with the report submitted by the consultancy, It does also contain sensationalist views and interpretations of he said she said that won’t stand in a court of law.

In short….I doubt the outcome for both Clarkson and Fagen will be as bad as (being forced to step down) or as good to get off scott free….

Now…my personal opinion. As a person of colour, and a die hard north fan who has never met Clarkson or Fagen, to mark them as racist of the back of an ABC sport report is irresponsible…..

Do I think Clarkson and Fagen are ruthless pricks that operate beyond boundaries to win…..most definitely. Highly intuitive but Insensitive….quite possibly….racist….no…

Wtf? So if he did nothing wrong he has to go? Settle down - we have 1 half of a story.
Yes surely entitled to his day in court and a presumption of innocent until proven guilty. Otherwise sets a dangerous precedent ie. anyone's career can be destroyed by a completely bogus claim. Eg.Majak was allowed to keep playing despite rape allegations.

I didn't go there and it's not about me Charlie.

I have seen enough to know that getting these kids away from some of these environments and people is their only hope.

There’s definitely no one size fits all solution.

Yeah that was well known, my point is why draft him if you think he needs to live with Hodgey to straighten up? And then only do it for one week?
was high risk/high reward scenario,,,,hawks off a lot of success had bugger all draft capital .....gee they got pick 19 compo for buddy leaving and some here feel we were stitched up trading out BBB for what we got! IIRC Lyndsay spent some time with garlett to assess his character and was a firm thumbs down. Hawthorn were the only team at the time that could possibly entertain putting him on the list given the strength of their team, strong culture, and lack of draft capital. 30 something pick for what could have been #1 level talent.
