I wouldn't call it a stitchup from the players necesarrily, their hesitation as I said is understandable if a little niave. On Hawthorn part it, it most definently is. There is no way the report would only involve interviewing the victims and would not have been leaked to tje press in manner it was

Yeah Hawthorn's behaviour in all of this deserves a lot of scrutiny.

No. It's Rod Owen, who was the subject of one of his articles on historical sex abuse.

My mistake then. The image of Phil Egan I had from 2018 looked very similiar. 1664234398333.png

We are talking about people who have no trust in both Hawthorn and the AFL and by extension probably have very little faith they will get a fair or transparent process in any panel organised by the AFL. Hesitation is inevitable and it should be treated with sensitivity and negotiation, not jumping straight to "it's a stitch-up". That helps no one.

Attitudes like yours are exactly why people don't come forward with these sorts of allegations.

That's all well and good, and I agree that it might not be a "stitch up", but that's not how it's going to work. I'll state that this isn't an area of expertise for me, but as I understand it, if they don't participate in the AFL's investigation, then the League won't let this linger indefinitely so their claims will get thrown out. Then Clarkson and Fagan probably get their day in court later on because although they were cleared by the League, their reputations were still trashed.

Yep I agree they have to participate. Was more taking issue with the attitude that it must be false or exaggerated if they don't, or have hesitation in doing so. It's entirely understandable.

Have we not considered whether Clarkson has talked to our indigenous players personally? Nothing stopping him from doing that and if he has material that nips it in the butt then I feel like that’s the first group that would be spoken to.

I imagine he would have been advised to not speak to people willy nilly about the allegations.

The “journalist” shouldn’t have named anyone. Just the Hawthorn football club.
Agreed. That was definitely done for maximum impact. If it's isolated to one club it's a concern. If it is dragged across 3 clubs then it becomes a huge story.

Makes change more likely to happen and potential payouts become bigger.

I really hope that the player managers for those players making the allegations are put under the microscope about if they were made aware of the allegations at the time and if they were what they did about the allegations.

If they sat on their hands the AFLPA should really be looking at revoking their accreditation (assuming they are still accredited agents).

If they do come forward but then refuse to be cross examined, it’s pointless and extremely naive on their behalf. It’s quite natural to doubt their motives when this happens

Could Clarkson and Fagan then do a tell all interview with a journalist of their choice (just like the accusers did with Jackson) and put up their side of the story?

Chris Fagan has hired top legal help in a bid to clear his name in the Hawthorn racism bombshell. Get the latest details on what’s next here.

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan has hired a top legal team in a bid to clear his name in the Hawthorn racism bombshell.

Fagan and Clarkson were allegedly named in Hawthorn’s review of its treatment of First Nations players.

Reports of their alleged interactions have been damning and the AFL is working to establish a panel to investigate the claims.
Fagan and Clarkson have vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

Fagan has enlisted Clayton Utz lawyers and barristers Liam Kelly KC and David Turner to act on his behalf in the proposed investigation.

“I have retained Clayton Utz lawyers together with barristers Liam Kelly KC and David Turner to act on my behalf in relation to the proposed forthcoming investigation by the AFL,” Fagan said in a statement.

“I confirm, as I said in my earlier statement, that I deny, categorically, the allegations of wrongdoing by me in relation to First Nations players at the Hawthorn Football Club, and that I intend to defend myself.

“I also confirm my intention to participate fully in any investigative process, provided that it is independent, fair and impartial, and respects my right to be heard.

“I await further information from the AFL.”

The plonk flows on

Convenient timing for Jeff Kennett to be out of the country during the week of a seismic scandal involving the Hawthorn Football Club and its past treatment of First Nations players.

Kennett, the incumbent president, has been aboard Lindsay Fox’s shiraz-soaked 85th birthday cruise from New York to Montreal, and was noted by some to have been acting most unpresidential in his outspoken dislike and assessment of former coach Alistair Clarkson when news of the scandal broke.

It was allegedly under Clarkson’s coaching leadership that some of the racism against indigenous players occurred, with he and several others linked to the scandal having already stood down from their roles in response.

Not Kennett, however, a past president at the club from 2005 to 2011. His successor has stood aside but he doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, at least before the club’s AGM in December – despite internal calls for him to do so. This, we remind readers, is the same Kennett who used to carry around a golliwog doll called Buddy, named after Swans hero Lance Franklin.

The cruise itself has been something of a booze bash, according to an account provided to Margin Call, featuring a vino-tasting event led by Penfolds’ chief winemaker, Peter Gago, among other sessions on the restoratives.

Vile.

I imagine the make-up of the panel will influence
Yep - I called it a stitch up last week and was called out - I stand by that and my media sources who agreed with me - it is a stitch up if these so called victims refuse to participate.
What nonsense. The make-up of the panel will likely determine whether or not they get witnesses to appear. If it is stacked against them or contains AFL lawyers or coaches association reps or multiple people already on the AFL payroll they would be crazy to appear.

This could be the first time I've seen The Oz call out any white Australian celebrity for racism.
Remarkable.
That's quite the achievement you've unlocked, Jeff.

Fagan isn't messing around, that is two law firms he is engaging and I am sure he is sending the bill to the HFC.

Didn’t drop yesterday as I was told, but I expect a similar additional statement to come from the Clarkson camp.

"It is understood"
Nice arse covering Ralphy. Did they or didn't they.

Also, interesting that Ralph is saying the families gave their accounts to Egan as well. Such conflicting information on what was in the report the AFL received. Unless the AFL was just hiding behind the fact identifying details were redacted.

He’s not nicknamed the truck because of his size, it’s because of how often he has to back away from stories.

I actually thought this was a joke and then found this: Jeff Kennett's vast collection of Golliwogs

Honestly, what is wrong with this bloke.

The shit truck?

Reminds me of a mate we used to call NT because it was short for campaigner.
