Anyway I've been shitty with Harry Souttar for two years because he destroyed Wycombe Wanderers when we were desperately trying to hang on in the Championship but I'll let it slide this evening.

Fun fact about the big fella, though: when he was first selected for Australia, he'd never even been to Australia.

Same as Boyle right?

What a day yesterday was. Awesome to be there. Socceroo's simply outstanding for the whole match. Senior players all stood up. Tunisia fans crested a highly charged, electric atmosphere in the stands but were also very very respectful. Plenty of families there. It was one massive party before the game around Souq Waqif and the stadium.
Went to France v Denmark later in the evening. Atmosphere more subdued in this one. France makes everything look effortless. Just quality these guys. Joined in the France anthem however was using the words of the Brisbane Lions song. Caught a 'dodgy' cab back to the apartment as queues for metro/ubers massive. Driver was old Bangladeshi man who basically said you 'pay me what you want' so $25, a kebab and coke we were home 20 minutes later. He seemed happy with that.

Can you start a thread with your day to day diary of what goes on there? Would luv to read that. How’s the general atmosphere? Does the country feel as forced as it looks? Safe over there?

I’ll try and post every few days. Just quickly as I’m about to go and watch Belgium v Morocc, it is hot but comfortable, stadium air con is really good, plenty of police, security and volunteers around to assist although rules and regulations at stadiums are enforced inconsistently. Easy to get around but chaotic after games. Fans everywhere mixing and having a great time. Chatted with some Saudi fans in our apartment block this morning. They were so wrapped beating Argentina and we were laughing we may actually play each other in the round of 16. Doha is fine, don’t believe the rubbish you read in the media. Haven’t had any hassles at all. You can easily get a drink if you want.

No wonder the afl do everything to sabotage the real football
Over three million people watched the AFL GF if you count streaming. 2.5 million watch the League on TV usually (tho less this year but all up 2.8m including streaming.)

They don’t need to - aussie rules is so superior it sells itself. The ‘world game’ is set up for cheats and corrupt officials. I watch our games and love watching Melbourne Victory and love to see us win but the cheating makes me sick.

BEIJING: China's state broadcaster is cutting close-up shots of maskless fans at the Qatar World Cup, after early coverage sparked anger at home where street protests have erupted over harsh COVID-19 restrictions.

During a live broadcast of Sunday's (Nov 27) group game between Japan and Costa Rica, state broadcaster CCTV Sports replaced close-up shots of maskless fans waving flags with images of players, officials or the football stadium, AFP observed.

CCTV Sports showed distant shots of the crowd where it was difficult to make out individual faces, and fewer crowd shots compared to the live telecast of the same game on online platforms including Douyin - China's version of TikTok.

Soccer is the game most affected by onfield cheating - diving is a blight on the game that is tolerated at all levels. Its the major game that can be most affected by cheating.
I simply can not take soccer seriously as a sport when falling over is fully encouraged.
