Wagner has all these elite attributes but couldn’t even make the 6 man bench in this ?

To be fair, half those players are already on an AFL list.
The fact Duman plays in the same position and is ranked ahead of Wagner does say something though, maybe those selectors prefer a bit of height as well.

His draft write-up on the Docker's site make it sound like the half-back switch occurred mid season. Might explain why he missed the team. Might not too but lets be optimistic for now at least.

"He's been at Port Melbourne in the VFL the last two years and has continued to improve, where he had an exceptional back-end of the 2022 season after moving to HB."

Neither Lachie Schultz nor Sam Switkowski made the VFL team of the year in the years we drafted them

Schultz didn't even make the 40 man squad. Look at some of the names we missed out on instead!

Talk about meaningless reasons to shit on our players for literally no reason at all, this one is seriously up there

Well said
Agreed. Joao covered it well. Wagner midway through the year moved to half back line and dominated. Prior to that played mid forward. Also spent some time on the wing. It was in the second half of the season that some AFL clubs took notice and as another poster said his GPS data was through the roof.

He has played AFL as forward. Came to Melbourne via pre-season SSP ahead of 2019 season and played 11 games. Melbourne sucked that year. In 2020 Melbourne improved and he found himself struggling to get into the team and was delisted. Had a solid season (and as per those VFL team of the years has found himself in the teams previously).

It was mid 2022 with the switch to the backline where he turned it on. Who cares about the VFL team. Corbett didn’t make it either (prob more through injury).

He was pick 57 (third last pick in the ND). He was coming to Freo either via ND or RD. Freo perhaps had concerns another club might add him as an early Rookie draft pick.

But to criticise his non-selection in the VFL team of the year is silly talk.

I will put my hand up and confess that getting O'Meara seemed a bit odd to me at the time but his attitude since becoming part of Freo has been outstanding.

What a great thing to promote two of our young players in such a positive manner.

You have won me over 100% Jager. Not just a player but a leader and a mentor too.

Even with his big rise to fame after the Gold Coast to hawthorn deal, he has never been one of those players that you say “he is such a tool”. Never been in the media for the wrong reasons, and even showed leadership back at the suns.

I personally think his addition will be a master stroke. And what you said, not just on the fields

No photos to get excited about in this lot at all...

Fyfe, Tabs, Corbett, Pearce, Jackson, Hamling all look in really good nick.

Reidy and Emmett look most ready to play of the draftees imo (plus Wagner). Can't wait to see the new forward line in action.
Out of all the potential newbies we got, my money is on Corbett to make the biggest impact up forward this season.

I went down today. Had to leave early as I had a function on.

The boys had a promotional day in a marquee so started training a little later. Didn't watch full training but I must say they look built up. Almost no one injured and the young guys look very professional. Some posters think with mundy and lobb going there will be a drop off for a few years. I think the young guns will drive Freo into finals.

Just something about them this year.

He looks pretty ripped Corbett.

Definitely some size added to Kuek. Still a way to go but he has more muscle definition.

Also Wagner had a good solid build. Someone was concerned he would be pushed around too easily. I think he looks pretty strong and solid to me.

Henry and Sturt have more muscle bulk.

Only one pre-season game so the the new forward is going to have to gel pretty quick
