Saved these games and the Lecras Bombers game (wow) to Foxtel library.

Cummings got some silver service that day!

Now have something other than the 2018 GF to watch when I get home at 2am with a kebab after the Scorchers win!

FoxtelNow isn't showing those games on demand, which is a bit average. In fact anything they've streamed on the Fox Footy channel isn't available for on demand streaming. It basically goes back to the AFLW with a sprinkle of On the Couch or similar 😣

Duggans injury worries me. He always takes time to hit his straps after coming back from injuries. He was actually unfit last season but avoided the flak as there were a few bigger names that were worse off. There were a few times last year his opponents would burn him off and that was probably the first time I’ve seen it happen to him regularly. Was hoping he’d have a good run at it in 2023 but I’m not so confident now

That’s a second journo now who’s said everyone bar Barnett and Bazzo did at least part of the session with the main group meaning Tyrell Dewar who did no training pre-Christmas must be making good progress in his recovery

He’s being eased in and to me it seems the fitness staff are being ultra cautious with players, especially those who had long layoffs and/or post season surgery

There doesn’t appear much hesitation in pulling players away the moment there’s an issue no matter how minor. Get a look at it, make sure it isn’t an issue then plug them back in asap once they’re happy no damage has been done

If this is a precursor to players not playing before they’re ready, it’s a good thing

Simmo’s BBQ

And everyone was invited

Top 4 finish incoming 😎

Good to see Justin Langer there - he might be unpopular with the Australian Cricketers for being too tough but I hope he can deliver a bit of this to the leaders at the club.

I was there the other day and he was getting up to 70-80% running speeds alongside Chance Bateman. Seemed to move pretty freely, didn't look at all restricted so I think the main focus now is getting his fitness base up and then getting his footy touch back.

More than once this off season I’ve heard Simpson talk about getting the players healthy, then fit and then overlay the football

I think we’re at a stage where the vast majority are healthy, most are fit and now the competitive stuff is being worked in excluding those who aren’t fully fit just yet

To have all but 2 players on the track is very encouraging especially when one of the players missing is out for a non football related tragedy

He often mentioned it last year as well, when explaining why the season was off the rails.

It's good to be focused on the issues, but being healthy and fit are the base requirements for starting the year at any club. Let's hope they're figuring out the football stuff - it will be a super fun season if we roll up with an attacking gameplan and a bunch of young talent that we can see develop.

I think they’re wary that it was this time last year the wheels started coming off so there’s an overemphasis on making sure the players don’t lose the gains they’ve worked for

Simpson’s first press conference this year he made comment that he thought they were in really good shape last year after the break, then all hell broke loose so he’s been coy about how good they look this year

There’s nothing new in this but serves as a useful summary of eagles related stories on the AFL website so far this off season

Despite missing the entire 2022 season due to a foot injury, Eagles forward Oscar Allen said he is confident he can step up and fill the shoes left by retiring club champion Josh Kennedy. The club announced Isiah Winder had been charged with assault over an incident that occurred during his visit to Victoria in December for the AFL/AFLPA Indigenous and Multicultural Players Summit in Geelong. There were promising signs for the Eagles at training, with midfielder Campbell Chesser stepping things up as he builds towards a full return from serious bone and ligament damage to his right ankle. The Eagles' senior midfielders are in good shape, with experienced pair Dom Sheed and Andrew Gaff impressing in match simulation. Jeremy McGovern is looking in career-best shape after undertaking an intense running program last year while he was sidelined with a serious rib injury. Jai Culley has been a pre-season standout, with last year’s mid-season draftee backing himself to break into the Eagles' midfield in round one.

Wonder if Langer has a role at the club again given he was at Simmo’s BBQ:tm:

Sat on the board a few years ago prior to becoming the Aus coach, no? Or did he never leave that role?
Still on the board

Wouldn't mind seeing Ginbey shadowing some better mids around at times next season. Yeo early on his career didn't see to real read the game as well and really didn't become great till Mitchell came in. Ginbey already posses a few Yeo like traits and with his size and endurance might actually be up for the task too

Went to training today had a good chat to a few players and got to ask Simo a few questions

What stood out to me

Greg Clark kicking to the forwards geez he looked good damaging even.

Barrass, Tommy has slimmed down and is moving the best he has in years, his thighs and shoulders
are slimmer said is not having back problems which he has struggled with last few years.
His running gait seems smoother looks good

Hunt look like he is going to be good for us takes the game on.

Rotham was very good as well, hes a great kick when he doesnt go sideways

Spoke to Simo asked had any players surprised him was Noah long and Jordyn Baker

said Baker has lovely skills and is a great tackler, Long thinks he can play early on for us

Like I knew he would Ginbey is already WCE best trainer first in last to leave, this kids work effort is so good.

Really excited about Noah Long seems to be standing out for a low pick might be quite a gem. Been a long time since we had a small speedy forward that can crumb and take on the ground ball.

Hopefully he stands out in the WAFL and gets a debut around round 6

He can be a touch fumbly, give him a couple of years before any judgement at afl level. He is a midfielder who has transitioned into being a forward.

We found our Cripps replacement!
