It's not a professional league. It is run on a oily rag so costs have to be contained. How about the afl giving second tier comps more money. As said before Wafl clubs will have pre season games weeks before the Wafl season starts. Will The Beagles be playing pre season games in the wafl or will they be to scared to play Afl standard eagles in these games just in case they get injured

What's the difference in risk with fringe players getting restricted game time in a WAFL preseason practice game v a WAFL season proper game?

Either way the player takes a risk.

If they aren't ready then they aren't ready.

The risks are the same. Likely moreso in a proper WAFL season match played for points as the opposition will go harder.

The only difference is there likely isn't four preseason games the month before the WAFL season starts.

So Chesser and others play two WAFL preseason games whilst moving into full contact training loads.

First of all you can’t have a break out year when you’re an established player and club threw everything plus the kitchen sink to bring you over. That said Goss makes a point.

Feels like TK’s gone under the radar a bit this preseason and looks in terrific nick
Uzi at the AB medal, I think I'm going to hell because it's a sin to look this good😂😂

Not much to report from training today - pretty low key session that was wrapped up well before 10.30 after what was assume was a 9.00 start (i was there late - one day the Mitchell freeway roadworks might be finished and allow for a reasonable travel time)

• Barnett still working away from the main group. Was running at good pace so hopefully he’s not too far off
• A few absentees/non-participants. Shuey, Chesser and Dewar were spectators. No sign of Hurn or Jones
• Ryan started late. And finished late
• I’m not 100% certain but it looked like Matthew Knights was back after it was reported recently he’d returned to Victoria for personal reasons. No time frame for his return was given other than that it was hoped he’d be back before the season started
• Still in awe at the physical shape Culley has got himself in
• Duggan and Cole both trained
• Petruccelle was covering the ground at pace really well

Not really anything more to add

Apparently there’s a significant match sim planned for Friday

Interesting presser from Shuey. Quite honest and candid about 2022, captaincy and this preseason.

Admitted calls that the club were unfit last year were pretty accurate and talked about the group’s collective improved attitude and effort to get fitter. Along with the S&C staff putting together a new and different training program to the last few years.

Also said he spoke to Rhett Bazzo a day after his mum passed and it seems like he was pretty distressed at all the pictures of him and his mum all over the paper and online. And the camera crews who showed up at his front door to try get him to talk the day after the incident. Disgraceful stuff

Honestly, nobody can defend the actions of the 'journalists' as far as I'm concerned. Disgraceful stuff indeed. Whether they're "doing their job" or not, they still know the difference between right and wrong. Harassing a teenager who tragically and unexpectedly lost his mother and sole remaining parent, at their doorstep no less, and plastering photos of him with his mother all over the papers and the internet, is inexcusable and unforgiveable as far as I'm concerned. How could you sleep at night being a participant in all of that?

If they were 'harrassing' him (and hanging outside his house qualifies), that's out of order. But to expect journalists not to report on it is silly. It was newsworthy when it was a missing woman, it was newsworthy when it was two women dead in a boating accident and it's newsworthy when it is a relative of a sports person. There's respectful ways of handling it, but just ignoring it was never an option.

Wednesday’s always seem to be shorter and lighter sessions and today was no different - I reckon a lot of players are taking it easy ahead of that match sim happening on Friday - apparently it’ll be 70 minutes worth.
  • Ryan, Shuey, Kelly and Gov started the sessions late - today is the first day back at school and all have young kids so that may be why
  • Kelly and Gov otherwise trained fully but Ryan came out around 10am and didn’t do much. Ran laps and did some kicking and set shots with Chance Bateman.
  • Shuey and Chesser indeed did very little - Chesser warmed up separately from the main group while Shuey ran laps by himself to start. Dewar spent the first 30-45 mins of the session doing some running and agility exercises on the opposite oval with Harry Barnett and a trainer before watching the main group.
  • Jordyn Baker was also a spectator - came out late, did some kicking with Barnett on the other oval for a little bit but otherwise just watched on. Has been in full training up to this point
  • Jones and Hurn were there for the first half hour or so just doing some kick to kick with each other, didn’t see them after that though
  • Connor West spent a bit of time training away from the main group, not sure why.
  • Was impressed with Noah Long during the full ground drill they did, some really nice roving off packs close to goal.
  • Greg Clark has always been a great trainer but thought he looked really good today, hitting targets and covering the field really well.
  • Agree re Petch - Nic Nat also covered the ground well during the full ground drill, saw him sprinting across the ground into defence at one stage just going full pelt even though it’s only a training drill
  • Jamieson spent a bit of time training with the forwards. As far as I remember he usually either plays in the ruck or defence. Maybe trying something new
  • Yeo and Ginbey trained with the mids today, though they’ll probably still spend time in both defence and midfield during the match sim on Friday.
  • Tom Barrass showed no signs of the wrist injury he had in early January. No cast on and was taking marks like normal

So now a senior figure is admitting the obvious - that the club was not at AFL fitness levels for last year. Does this mean the club has finally stopped deluding itself and blaming Covid and "Synergy" for last year? Wouldn't it be great if a journo confronted Simpson and Nisbett with this confession from Shuey and asked them how this came to pass last year. They definately should be asked about this and asked if this was not their fault and their responsibility then whose fault and responsibility was it. Making people be accountable is important. From your summary it almost sounds like Shuey thinks it is up to the players how fit they decide to be for an upcoming season.

I think with bulk injuries and covid disruptions it's hard to get AFL match fit. As for a new program I would think that there would only be a few percentage points in difference. I doubt the whole playing group were just lazy and cbf getting fit.

I certainly never suggested it shouldn't have been reported on, however I am of the belief that there are perhaps more respectful ways of reporting the story than making it a front page spread. Wouldn't you agree that there is more worthy news of a massive front page spread than those events? Had it not been Rhett Bazzo's mother, I doubt it would have been reported on in the same way. A little decorum would go a long way in todays age of journalism. It just doesn't sit right with me and it never will.

There's a free delivery code with that email and the option of getting a free pin/sticker/lanyard, so this year I got the $25 members hat for free and the pin (didn't want the sticker and lanyard as well) which arrived today.

So they've effectively made the old membership pack opt in with some extra hurdles to jump over to save money.
Seems like we don't get the additional birthday $20 voucher this year? Only the $25 voucher. Nothing mentioned in the membership welcome email unlike last season.

I think all parties (maybe bar Nisbett, but not sure how directly responsible he is for player conditioning) have been held responsible. And they all understand the minimum standards (and have put the required work in to meet those standards).

You seem to be after a public lynching, which is not the West Coast way. Maybe Carlton, Essendon or old-days-Melbourne might have done what you suggest, but we are a more professional outfit than that!
