I reckon my boy Harry will surprise a few this year.

Harry looks primed for a key back role now but how do we work him into a key position with Barrass and Gov taken those two key positions. It's a tough one to work out. Unless we have all three big bodied keys with mix between Hurn Duggan Jones Hunt Cole being the small defenders.

Very subjective call. The below was reported a month ago, apparently set up pretty well for a decent year. He’s easily best 22 for mine and rated a lot higher at the club than outside it. Was top 10 B&F 2021, still 25, I say he’s pretty much a lock if fit.

***Cole had been among the stand-outs on the track to that point, leading in the running drills alongside teammates before spending time with trainers during a break.

Back at the front of the pack alongside the likes of Jamie Cripps, Sheed and Andrew Gaff as one of the better runners in the Eagles’ unit, Cole is ready to launch in 2023.

“I’m feeling fit and back to normal where I was 12 months ago, which is nice,” Cole said.***
That's where I read that from. Yeah couldn't remember the article but have high hopes he was back to his best and ready to go. His a gun when up and running.

Good question. I’m sure Harry can figure out an answer with his gigantic melon of a head though, right?

The midfield is the area we need to drastically improve, when Nic Nat rucks it seems the best our midfield can do is break even, when he doesn’t we get a hiding.
WC winning games of footy is dependent on how much our midfield can improve its output this year.

I concur, and this year we are going to see if Simpson is prepared to tinker his game plan to address our 3 glaring deficiencies:
-Contested Ball
-Ground ball
-Tackling

Tackling, should be able a given. That just requires intent and will. Contested ball is a little bit more tricky because Simpsons game plan has long been centered around uncontested chip/mark football. But if Yeo, Nic Nat and Shuey are able to play consistently, along with my boy Culley, that will certainly help our cause

As for groundball, i am not sure that will ever be addressed. Only because it would require our mids to consistently hunt the ball (which it would seem they are instructed not too). I swear this problem is a relic all the way back to our Priddis days where he seemed to be the nominated "extractor" whilst everyone else stands around the outside of the pack and looks to effect a turnover from the oppositions outlet disposal

We also had a ridiculously efficient forward line. We've since lost JK and Rioli, and there are question marks over Darling, so there's a lot riding on a young bloke who missed all of last year to hold it all together.

With Shuey, Sheed and Yeo being the 3 main mids that have a bit of synergy with NicNat, Shoo being the standout, how many times have all 4 attended a CB in the past few years?
Not a lot I would say

How about giving the Synergy word the flick, it really does suck balls, and offers very little in explaining a situation.
Kelly has been with WC for quite some time, and would have played more midfield time with Nic Nat than any of the mids you mentioned in the last few years.
Whatever list of names you put forward it doesn’t really matter as they just need to get better!
How many games has Nic Nat got left in his career, 10,20,30,40? who knows, but he is not the answer nor is that overused, not funny word, Synergy.

The West's early call for our best round 1 team.

B: Shannon Hurn, Tom Barrass, Liam Duggan

HB: Luke Shuey, Jeremy McGovern, Jamaine Jones

C: Jayden Hunt, Tim Kelly, Andrew Gaff

HF: Jamie Cripps, Jack Darling, Jake Waterman

F: Liam Ryan, Oscar Allen, Callum Jamieson

R: Nic Naitanui, Elliot Yeo, Dom Sheed

IC: Reuben Ginbey, Tom Cole, Jai Culley, Elijah Hewett

SUB: Brady Hough

Ok, but he is still our number 1 ruck and probably still the best tap ruck in the comp, particulary at centre bounces.
The 3 mids I mentioned have played and trained with him the most over the past 6-10 years and over that time have built familiarity with his tactics and have an almost automatic knowledge of what he will do in any given situation.
Last year Kelly would have learnt a hell of a lot with the few games he got to rove to him and this year he will probably join that group with being able to read him and what he will do.
Trying to bring a positive into what has been our weakest area in recent years so barring that dreaded "I" word we should have a massive improvement in our weakest area.

At this point in time, I can't see the logic in selecting either Ginbey or Hewett ahead of Brady Hough given his output last year. Having said that, I'd be delighted to be proven wrong. I'd still love to see Gov stationed at full-forward, he'd be a nightmare for fullbacks with those mitts. It might be a test for young Harry Edwards to hold down CHB but I think he's more than capable in that role given his growth in the last couple of years. Playing JD (at the expense of Jake) as a third tall would create a pretty imposing forward line.

Well I was at Simmo's latest press conference and here we go:

Simpson: Good afternoon everyone, and thank you for joining me today. As you know, the West Coast Eagles had a challenging season last year, and we have been working hard to address the areas that need improvement. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about our plans for the 2023 season.

Reporter: Coach Simpson, can you give us some insight into how you plan to improve the team's "synergy" in the upcoming season?

Simpson: Yes, absolutely. As you mentioned, the lack of synergy among our key players has been a challenge in recent years. We're working on building stronger connections between our midfielders and ruckman, and we're also focused on getting our players on the field more consistently. We've been working with our medical and conditioning staff to address our injury concerns, and we're taking steps to minimize the risk of COVID-19 affecting our team.

Reporter: How will you address the challenges of missed games due to injury?

Simpson: Our medical and conditioning staff have been working diligently to minimize the risk of injuries, and we're taking a comprehensive approach to player health and well-being. We're also taking steps to improve the depth of our squad, so that we have more options when players are sidelined. This will give us more flexibility to adjust to any unexpected absences.

Reporter: What do you think are the team's key strengths heading into the 2023 season?

Simpson: We have a talented group of players who are motivated to succeed. Our midfield, including Luke Shuey, Dom Sheed, Elliot Yeo, and Tim Kelly, has shown its ability to dominate games, and Nic Naitanui is a force to be reckoned with in the ruck. We're also excited about the potential of some of our younger players, who have shown a lot of promise in the preseason.

Reporter: What do you think will be the biggest challenges for the team this year?

Simpson: As always, the competition will be tough, and we'll need to be at our best every week to succeed. We'll need to continue to work on our consistency, and make sure we're playing our best football when it matters most. We'll also need to be prepared to adapt to any unforeseen challenges, such as injuries or COVID-19-related issues.

Thank you for your questions, and we're looking forward to the season ahead.

ChatGPT is still awesome. I did not even use medical and conditioning staff as a prompt.

Forward line too tall.

Lacks speed and defensive pressure types. Opposition would be taking the ball out of defense far too easily.
