Tom Cole has not been impressive at all this preseason, but having said that he is a Simpson favourite
so will probably get a game round 1
Very subjective call. The below was reported a month ago, apparently set up pretty well for a decent year. He’s easily best 22 for mine and rated a lot higher at the club than outside it. Was top 10 B&F 2021, still 25, I say he’s pretty much a lock if fit.

***Cole had been among the stand-outs on the track to that point, leading in the running drills alongside teammates before spending time with trainers during a break.

Back at the front of the pack alongside the likes of Jamie Cripps, Sheed and Andrew Gaff as one of the better runners in the Eagles’ unit, Cole is ready to launch in 2023.

“I’m feeling fit and back to normal where I was 12 months ago, which is nice,” Cole said.***

He is definably better than those two he mentioned.
I would rather use Rotham in that role to be honest he has been impressive in match simulation

I haven’t seen any match simulation, but I don’t know how Rotham will fit in in defence with a new quick-movement game style. Over the last couple of years he’s seemed really hesitant with his passing.

Mind you I feel the same about Witherden and he was in the best 22 side the other day.

I don’t remember which journo it was, but one of the match sim reports I read talked about Rotham moving the ball aggressively without turning it over.

Edit : It was Duffield

“Josh Rotham stood out under pressure in defence and used the ball aggressively without any damaging turnovers. He had fallen out of favour with selectors in the back half of 2022 but certainly did his chances of early games no harm on Friday morning.”

Hasn’t played since 2021 and has been eased into this preseason including a period recently where he was in precautionary rehab for a couple of weeks after tweaking his ankle

Not surprising then that he hasn’t been tearing it up just yet but at 100% fitness he’s in the side. We need a lockdown small defender and he’s our best option

Safe to say your source wasn't that great hey
Time will tell if West Coast reveal if it was a fracture or not. They can definitely heal without surgery but without that clairty it’s fair to question. I’m pretty comfortable where the info came from however, if it turns out to not be true I’d be surprised. Regardless good news he is looking at return closer to 6-8 weeks.

Why can’t we just hypnotise the boys into improving their performance?

“Once you hear the words ‘Gee Venables has some skills’ you’ll go into fits of uncontrollable arousal” for example.

Chesser is being held back as they ease him in to competitive football

Played a quarter of the match sim last Friday and based on what Simpson said today might extend that to a half on Friday

I’ve yet to see him train at full pace but he looks pretty tidy in what I have seen. Talk from around the club remains very bullish

Think it’ll be several rounds into the season before we see him at AFL level and maybe not until after the bye
Thanks for the reply. I don’t know what happened to Chesser, but he’s such a good kid, I’d hate for an injury to derail his career.

Yeah I’ve never seen you on this board before
I meant this thread.

Whe you get so comfortable you don't even pardon the intrusion anymore.
I’m like the neighbour next door, who’s comfortable enough to walk in the back door, help himself to a bottle of milk from the fridge, and drink straight from the bottle.

If only everybody rightly fully paid homage to the original creator of this Boardism, the world would be a better place.

Ohh, so the 18 guys locked in must only be locked in because of their credits

Presumably if Simpson had said “no one’s guaranteed a spot, all positions are up for grabs” the same poster(s) would be criticising him for not being decisive enough, or something.

Feel Culley is a lock. From his freshly minted credits he's saved this preseason.

Can get to 15 with the old blokes so three locks are not long termers.
