Ah yes, Braddles usually pops up at some point
2010–2019North Melbourne211 (106–105–0)

we are now around 75 ( 8-67-0 )

and you are still bagging him
possibly you just might have got that very very wrong
If that's true, it's an ugly, embarrassing stat that we've only won 8 games from 75 since he left. That's nearly 4 years of getting done almost week after week. We are well overdue some joy!

That stat is wrong. Since Brad Scott's departure we've been 16-53. Still terrible.

Also the group we had under Brad was way different than the current one. So the whole discussion is invalid.

I thought Foxtel was covering the praccy matches. According to their guide they only do 20 mins of our match Friday morning,

I set recording on my iQ4 box a couple of days ago it’s for about 3 hours on the box.

So, based on the preseason so far, what are the predictions for the year?
I’m an optimist by nature but I just have a sneaking suspicion it will go much better than anyone here can imagine.

Logic being, in 2021 in Noble’s first season we didn’t look like winning a game early in the season. But when we got going, 4.5 wins was the outcome. Given we lead GWS by 28 at 3/4 time - let’s call it 5 wins for the purpose of this discussion. And that was under a coach who couldn’t coach.

Now add just natural improvement from the young list, we should have been aiming for 8 wins in 2022, but of course for a number of reasons that didn’t happen. However, I reckon 2021 was a truer indication where we were than 2022 is.

With Clarko and his new coaching team, new recruits like Logue and Tucker, and natural improvement from the likes of Curtis and co, i reckon 10-12 wins is possible.

Loving the different views on how we should set up.

In years gone by it was 8 or so decent players and shitmen filling the remaining spots.

(GROUP A)
  1. Phillips 0 games in 2022
  2. Sheezel -0
  3. Comben- 1
  4. Archer- 3
  5. Bergman- 1
  6. Ford-3
  7. Goater-1
  8. Wardlaw-0
  9. Dawson -4

13 games for the up-and-comers in 2022

(GROUP B )
  1. Goldy- 22 games in 2022
  2. Zurhaar- 19
  3. McKay- 15
  4. Curtis- 15
  5. McDonald- 22
  6. Scott- 21
  7. Simpkin- 21
  8. LDU- 21
  9. Ziebull- 19
  10. Larkey- 20
  11. Hall- 11
  12. Greenwood- 21
  13. Corr
  14. Logue- 0
  15. Tucker- 0
  16. Shiels- 0
  17. Howe- 0
  18. Cunnington- 2
232 games for grp B in 2022

(GROUP C- shitmen)

  1. Mahony- 13 games in 2023
  2. Xerri- 12
  3. CCJ- 10
  4. Taylor- 22
  5. Lazzaro- 12
  6. Perez- 16
  7. Bonar- 10
  8. Powell- 18
  9. Spicer- 5
  10. Turner- 17
  11. Young- 20
  12. Stephenson- 16
171 games for the Shitmen.

Too many games played by the Shitmen for my liking. Hence why we're dead last I suppose.
I think Powell will drag himself out of the mire. A few others may follow
Perez, Young and Bonar are all OOC at seasons end, which speaks volumes for how they're perceived internally one could suggest.

With Logue, Tucker, Shiels, Howe in the mix along with a raft of youngsters Curtis Taylor would want to be careful imo.

So I'd like to see most weeks

Group A- 6

Group B- 14

Group C- 3

That gives us experience, enough youngsters in the side and minimal shitmen.

10/12 wins right there.
You might find some of those in group C move into group B this year.

Thinking specifically of Powell and Perez. But there might be a few others.

Powell for sure 100% will probably only take one match and that could be as soon as tomorrow.
Perez, Bonar, either CCJ/Xerri it won't be both I reckon.
A lot already rate Curtis, so I'm ok with that.
So yeah fingers crossed for around four of them

Some of those shitmen guys are young and had two pre seasons under Noble.

A couple might surprise, but yeah generally...

Worried about Sleevo, alot of talent but it might go to waste. Taylor, has some good qualities but I think ... well if he's a shitmenm he's the sort of shitmen you want in your side, but he needs to take another step or that's where he'll stay. Xerri and CCJ are both shitmen but cos they are tall they get a discount that sees them get away with shitmen stuff normal sized players couldn't get away with.

Young and Bonar - wanna see them under Clarko. I thought Young was a waste of a spot at the start of last season but he continually improved. If he improves that much again he'll be worth keeping around. Bonar has talent but needs consistency.

The bold guys and the two talls are the only ones I really see making the jump out of category C. The others might surprise but I can't see it happening at the moment.

But its the quality of their performances as shitmen that will make the difference.

Someone who kicks a goal a game and makes a nuisance of themselves (Sleevo and Taylor) then is capable of moving up the ground and getting 25 - 35 touches every now and then is a good level of shitmen to have around. Same with someone who can run off halfback between 10 and 30m then deliver effectively (ie to a target or a winnable contest or F&C) another 20-50m up to ten times a game is good level of shitmen. Especially if they are working with half backs who do 15 or twenty times a game.

Having those sort of guys in the bottom 7 players instead of the middle 10 is a big difference.

Maybe we need a category for those who have graduated from group A, aren’t yet in group B, but can’t be dismissed as shitmen.

Yes probably but I was deliberately leaving it open for improvement and was really going off their last season.

CCJ^^^

We paid a fair bit for him and he was originally drafted with pick 20 2017. Not sure how his value went up just quietly.

That is a shitmen year, doesn't mean 2023 is going to be a shitmen year, but heck six years in you'd be looking for improvement.
I have my doubts with him. But have fingers crossed.

Curtis Taylor^^^

Some would argue he had a great year ( yikes) and while it does look ok, how much impact did he have, has he scope for further improvement?

Is he going to get a game in our fwd line? On the wing? We have competition for spots in our 22/3 and some will get left behind.

Not necessarily positional spots but side spots. Logue, Tucker, Sheezel, Wardlaw , Phillips, Comben, Goater, Cunners played a total of 4 games between them for North in 2022.

I have them all either in our best 22 or should be soon enough. Then in 9 months we add another two first rounders, plus some more mature talent I'd suggest.

I reckon we are going to have a few shocked North BF fans.

A few players “time will come”. That could be good for some. For others not so much.

if we can’t compare results as the list has changed , well we can never compare anything much with coaching

and how on earth do you get 16 wins?

2022 2W from 22
2021 4W 1D from 22
2020 3W from 17

forget Patch filling in, so 9.5 wins from 61 games

People are nuts if they don't think we'll cut at least another 10/12 over the next two seasons.
I reckon I could name 17 /19 players that are chance not to be at North for season 2025.

And of course, that isn't great, but again when you win 9.5 out of your last 60 odd it is what should happen.

Scott built the list over 10 years and ultimately failed.

Only thing a coach can really do is get them to play a style that you believe can ultimately be successful. Have them prepare like world-class athletes and buy in.

Some crazed Hawjk fans reckon al became a shit coach, nah they became a shit list. Big difference.

When we reach 4 premierships under him he can load up with as many shitmen as he likes and shit coach us till the cows come home.
