So a question after listeing to this (amazing listen) and obviously moneyball is not all it was made out to be but who are our moneyball players. I think we are loaded with top end talent but who will be our freeborn and for the celtic fans our D White? For me Baily Scott, Archer, taylor, Perez and Drury look the type. That North may forgo top draft picks in the next few years for role players may be a smart move.

I don’t believe we have our Horford/White/Brogdon type players. I believe we’re still in the years with Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder and Tyler Zellar playing key minutes.

We’re a year or two away from signing genuine difference makers IMHO

Ok yep. So do we trade out our langfords, potential young guns for experience? I'm just interested in how we trade, Cats went the old trade which worked. It's more difficult in AFL than NBA given size of team but do we give up our two early picks next draft for experience? I don't know. Do we move up or languish at the bottom and build a team of young guns who may want to leave for $$ like GWS. How we manage this team is almost the most interesting part of this season for me anyway.

watch the start of the intra club game. He pulls out of the first contest he goes near. Heppell (who also won the rising star) cops it on here all the time and Stevo is 10 times worse. You ok with having someone that gutless in the side? He's an inconsistent cat.
Bullsh*t take and just an indication of your confirmation bias. You see what you want to see and strangely not the first time youve looked to single out this one moment that in actual fact never happened.

Go back and watch that contest. He doesn’t shirk anything. The ball slips past him in the contest and then he goes right back in and extracts it in the very next contest after which he delivers a textbook handball to a team mate.

Stevo will be fine this year under the Clarko system. His main limitation appears to be the pressure he puts on himself. Real confidence player, however if you’d been at the game on Saturday you would have seen how hard he was looking to apply pressure, make himself an option via hard running and play his role. Hopefully he doesn’t have to get bagged out by ‘supporters’ like you again this year.

If his preseason so far is anything to go by he is far behind the pecking order. Didn’t really do much.

Let’s see what he does against Richmond etc

Just reading the injury list as of Feb 17….

Aidan CorrCalf1 week
Brayden GeorgeKneeSeason
Aaron HallAchilles2 weeks
Jack MahonyShoulderTBC
Curtis TaylorCalf1 week
Darcy TuckerKnee3 weeks
George WardlawConditioningTBC

Does this mean we can probably expect Goater, Taylor, Shiels and Corr in the Richmond match sim?

Then Hall for the bulldogs, and Tucker in contention for round one?

Who knows with this club.

bwhahha, the ball slips past him? Whos got the confirmation bias? He doesn't attack the ball and lets it bounce up over his head. He then takes his eyes of the ball and fumbles. The Ball then gets slapped around until it falls in his lap, he didn't extract anything. He should of attacked the loose ball but was to scared, he then should of kept his eyes on the ball but knowing he had opened himself up he looked to see who was coming. He's a cat.

Should of gone to the Gold Coast.

FFS, it's have not of. I may be a pedant on this but I find that this particular erroneous choice of language in an argument is an early indicator that the argument itself is deficient in intelligence, reasoning, and merit. Certainly, that's confirmation bias, but as with the Gold Coast morons, it's a prejudice that rarely lets me down.

*Bonus points: he takes his eyes off the ball, not of the ball.

Not sure you can have ‘Moneyball players’.

Moneyball is predicated on an undervalued key metric, it’s not code for good players taken later in the draft.

Moneyball is the idea of recruiting players who have more actual value compared to what others think. I feel like most of these players are valued correctly as of right now.

Think i've heard all the ones you mentioned under the table are playing limited mins against Richmond on Friday

Playing 6 quarters against Richmond helps us cycle through the whole squad and give limited mins to some

Completely disagree. It’s part of what made Carey the player he was.
I mean yeah, but when looking at the modern game some guy who is able to create distance from their opponents (Cameron, Larkey, Buddy, etc) and get uncontested marks are not any worse than the gorilla-type contested marking players (Hawkins, H. McKay, Lynch, etc).

Medical room
The Kangaroos are tracking pretty well from a fitness perspective. New recruit Darcy Tucker is the only race against the clock for round one as he recovers from a knee injury. Jack Mahony (shoulder), Aidan Corr (calf), Curtis Taylor (calf) and Aaron Hall (Achilles) are all in a conditioning block, but should feature in at least one practice match. Brayden George is a long-term prospect after arriving at the club rehabilitating an ACL injury. Griffin Logue played a half in last Saturday's intraclub as he returns from a dislocated finger.

Who's flying
Keep an eye on North's exciting first-round draft picks from its 2020 crop. The No.3 selection from that season, Will Phillips, has been among the standouts on the track this summer and looks primed for a breakout campaign. Meanwhile, its No.13 pick from that year, Tom Powell, was best on ground in last Saturday's intraclub. He's noticeably bigger, but has kept his evasiveness, while he won plenty of the footy as a starting midfielder.

Well, this is new
There is a very Hawthorn feel to this new North Melbourne, which is only natural when four-time premiership coaching great Alastair Clarkson has taken the reins. Clarkson's former Hawks assistant Brett Ratten has arrived in a part-time assistant coaching role, his former player Josh Gibson has joined as a defensive specialist coach, ex-Hawks ruck coach Damian Monkhorst is performing the same role now at Arden Street, while Dan Howe and three-time premiership veteran Liam Shiels have signed as rookies. Then there's the club's new head of footy, Todd Viney, a long-time Clarkson colleague who also worked at Hawthorn.

Pre-season games
Match sim:
Friday, February 24 v Richmond @ Arden Street, 10am AEDT
Practice match: Saturday, March 4 v Western Bulldogs at Ikon Park, 1.10pm AEDT

And another thing...
Expect anything when it comes to where last year's No.3 pick, Harry Sheezel, plays his footy this season. A round one lock, Sheezel started last Saturday's intraclub in a completely new role across half-back, shifted forward to start the second half, then went through the midfield for long periods in the final term. – Riley Beveridge

Both types have their place, this is why we’re all preying Chom stays fit.
