Evans said the Harry Styles concert is definitely going to break the attendance record in his presser during the week. Queen currently hold the Carrara attendance record with 39,607 people showing up to that concert (a week before COVID became serious in AUS) but I'm guessing they are expecting us to break the 40k mark for the first time ever on Tuesday night. Pretty cool to see these massive stadium events coming to the Gold Coast and Harry Styles is arguably the biggest act in the world right now having won the big one at the Grammys just a few weeks ago. It's only going to continue with Pink also expected to pull massive crowds next year and this all makes me proud as a Gold Coaster to see our city coming to life on the big stage. We're the little beach town that could!

Harry Styles at the Bank Tuesday night, surely the suns go for some guernsey pic publicity
Reminds me of another famous musician performing on the GC...

Most importantly, what cut will the suns get from hosting that event? I believe stadiums usually take a 30 percent cut, so 40k tickets at 200 per person. Approx 30 percent of 8 million dollars?

Interestingly, I was looking at the revenue of the suns for 2022, it was around 6.5 mill for memberships and attendance. Then I saw the south sydney rabbitohs were only a few hundred thousand dollars more and they are the biggest nrl club in Sydney and made a prelim final.

The suns are therefore pulling some pretty good numbers on a national scale and would be top of the pack in every other sport in the country bar the AFL.

I wish the financial information was more available but I'd guess you're not far off in your estimation. Part of the reason the AFL was so keen on the Carrara Stadium redevelopment concept was because we were able to secure management rights to the ground on a "clean" stadium deal where we retain all the available host revenue from events and activities held at the stadium. So there's absolutely incentive there for us to schedule more big name concerts like this because we get the 30% cut (or whatever it is) once it's all said and done. Also incentive for us to host more cricket fixtures and continue to push towards securing our own BBL franchise.

Fascinating to see we're only just behind South Sydney in terms of membership and attendance revenue. I think part of the issue in the AFL is that we have several heavy hitters like Collingwood and West Coast that just completely dwarf our numbers but when you actually compare us to the bigger clubs in other sports then our numbers look very respectable. It's sort of the nature of the beast when you compete in your country's top sports league and would be like comparing revenue from a team like Everton to Manchester United. Everyone looks tiny when compared to Manchester United but in reality Everton is doing just fine.

Here we go. It looks like Boswell did not do his homework with his article, Twomey did. 3 more years to go.

Fiorini returned to the club ahead of his eighth season, when he was due to become a free agent, but signed a two-year contract extension through to the end of 2025.

It is only after Suns re-negotiated stadium deal with QLD government I believe in 2018 (together with Titans who threaten to play games somewhere else) Suns are able to make some profit from events held at stadium. Before that Suns were actually losing money hence mostly no events in the past. If I remember correctly there was some crazy money taken by QLD Stadium from every ticket price. There should be some articles available about it.

What's the profit now? I have no idea but the cost running stadium is apparently huge. I am pretty sure Cochrane mentioned a couple of times 3M per year (it would not surprise me if he exaggerated the figure).

Makes me nervous cos if we don't hit finals we'll be torched.
I’ve already heard one commentator say it will be a big fail if we don’t make finals this year. Bit dramatic I think. Injuries will play a huge role as they do with all clubs.
Funnily enough, if you look at all the ladder predictions, more people have us outside the eight than in it. And of those who have us in, most of them only have us scraping into eighth place.

How could it possibly be a big fail for a club that's highest ever finish was 12th to miss finals? I would be ecstatic even with 8th. Though I reckon it's a compliment to the talent on this team to place them inside the 8.

Im get 2015 vibes a little but that's probably just the years of disappointment, loathing and anxiety creeping in.
That's not even mentioning the years following the Suns.

I hear you but you know what - we need pressure. Good clubs thrive on it and it'll hold us to a standard. These lads aren't on a GC vacation any more.

It's more a personal fear and PTSD of years gone by.
