Suns in the Media - Part I

One thing about the Suns recently has been our open doors to journo's.

Giving full access to basically anyone and that's probably why we're getting a lot more media praise and full access articles.

It's a weird sport, when basically no information is ever given out and we have to rely on ITK's to get a hamstring strain or something like that but in the F1 world, drivers are getting interviewed 10mins before a 2 hour race with no breaks.

Players get paid a decent coin and you could say only 10/45 blokes on our list actually do any media work during the whole year.

Still don't know the length of Tom Berry & Ben Long's contract is quiet bizarre.

I thought Berry 2 years and Long 4 years. I have to check if it was published.

I bet he'll love that and win or lose Monday we'll get a nice piece from him.

Hi Team,

With the footy season just around the corner, 'Turnover The Tape' is back for another season of the podcast. If you are looking for a 35-40 min chat about all things Suns, give it a listen!

We talk the practice game with Essendon, our tall forward situation and the feeling of certainty with no big players left to re-sign among other things.

Enjoy!

Not sure I can handle much more of this media hype without a win to back it up. We need to beat GWS tomorrow so I can rest easy haha.

Gotta love big meat. He makes it abundantly clear that the lifestyle for a footy player on the GC is a lot better than it is in Melbourne, which was probably a big factor behind him having his career best year in 2022, but he also concedes players don't understand that until they've lived and played in both cities. It's just really difficult to convince a player like a 23 year old Dion Prestia that playing footy in Melbourne isn't as great as it seems when the footy club isn't performing particularly well on field and one of the big Melbourne clubs knocks on his door seemingly offering him the world.

You almost need guys like Casboult and Daniher at your club just to let the younger guys know that it's really not what it seems. On field results obviously help too but I think some of the onus also falls on the club to provide a good enough environment that players genuinely want to stay (even when the team isn't playing finals) like we're seeing now. Then again we saw Rankine give in to the temptation of going home so I guess every player is different but I would also add that Izak only signed a three year deal with the Crows and that may be an indication that he doesn't see his long term future there and it was just a financial decision.

He's been an amazing pick up. No fuss club man who brings the physicality and does his job every week. Big fan of the Meat stick.

Think it definitely varies from player to player. Some love the big stage and the lime light, but if you are a no fuss, just go about your business quiet type, then yeah sometimes you could see the difference.

Well, he definitely believes he will be playing with King and not get squeezed out of the side.

From what I saw in the practice matches, he played as well as if not better than both Chol and Luko. If Dew is picking on form then…

Official season launch at the Star Casino in Broadbeach tonight. Channel 9 Gold Coast just did a live cross where they spoke to Noah Anderson and he reaffirmed his committed to the club/his love for the city as well as revealing the internal excitement around King's return. The CH9 sports anchor even encouraged viewers and her fellow anchors to get out and support the boys when the season starts. Feels like the local media are warming to us more now!

Interesting that he says the suns focus alot on running. We do seem very lean this year, guys like hollands, holman, Anderson look like running machines. Should mean we run out games well this year, hopefully we don't get pushed around too easily though.

Running is the most fundamental of all the footy fundamentals!
