Geelong 0-2 trying to defend a premiership. Makes for an interesting season already.

Hawkins shouldn't be out there - looks months away from match condition.

I wouldn't write the Cats off yet though - once their injured defence returns, Bruhn and Bowes become fully integrated and Hawkins gets running they will be a serious challenger again later this year.
I think it highlights who the key players are for Geelong. To beat them, you have to shut Stewart down and you have to stop Hawkins (which is hard given the umps let him get away with murder).

I didn't really rate Hawkins in his 20s but he hs been a revelation is his 30s. Finally got the confidence to win games and he has amazing durability for his age.

So Brisbane gets a big Friday night game... At the same time as the first Broncos vs Dolphins derby occurs in NRL across the river...

The pettiness of code rivalry in this country continues.
Nobody really goes to the rugby anyway. It's "Better for television" according to fans.

Gabba's usually quite busy the past few years with Brisbane being a finals contender. hopefully they put in a much better showing than last week.

The NRL released their fixtures about a month before the AFL so this is a Gil thing

I’m not in a rugby state so I might have this wrong but more often than not it seems the AFL play spoiler to the NRL than vice versa

50k probably in Bne. Sydney is more about suburban grounds and as the locals say there is more to do in Sydney than just sport

NRL was already a sellout on Wednesday.

Bit of history with it being derby no.1, plus both teams are coming in 3-0 and the Dolphins have genuine widespread grassroots support throughout the north Brisbane / Moreton Bay regions.

Oh true.

Guess I was basing this assumption off my time living in NSW, lol.

Is this history they pissed in each other's mouths and now want revenge?

Brisbane should be pissed they’re not leading by more given their dominance (34-20 I50’s)

A 20 point halftime lead can be chewed up pretty quickly by a side like Melbourne

Gunston shanking 2 set shots out on the full hasn't helped Brissie, you would expect him to kick at least one of them, normally a great kick.
