Unclear why he was dropped for Carmichael in the first place to be frank.
I asked his dad, he needed a 4 quarter game, which is what I expected; even though us fans were pretty dirty he wasn't in the 23.

Doesn’t matter now and we won, but maybe Bianco or Ruscoe might have been better choices.
Carmichael played a full VFL game yesterday and got 18 possessions, but on form, there would be a couple at least ahead of him in line for the sub job next week.

Going by the review of last nights game seems like Steene's not ready, especially against Mcinerney he will outbody him with ease and will punch it far out of the contest so our midfielders can't get to the ball.

Atleast with Mcstay he creates a decent contest, bring the ball to ground and let our midfielders get to work.

Think in last years finals game against Melbourne he was one of their BOG as the predominant ruck with Big O out. Correct me if i'm wrong.

McStay seemed to excel being thrown into ruck at the last minute in that final & played so well. Says a lot about him imo. I can't imagine I'd be too thrilled being the third wheel to Hipwood & Daniher every week.

It seems to come down to bring in Reef and use McStay heavily in ruck, or bring in Ruscoe and use Frampton.

On balance I prefer the former.

Id drop WHE for Allan but that wont happen.

I think Frampton needs the consistency down back more, and I think Reef is more deserving of a senior selection than Ruscoe, so that’s two thumbs up for the former option from me.

Reef in for Cameron, and a McStay/AJ ruck combo.

I knew that and had said the same myself. I was just adding that with a VFL game under his belt this time, he still doesn't deserve to be sub next week,

Yep. I’d prefer it was WHE ( if dropped out of the 22) or Ed Allan although prefer he played a bit more VFL. Or maybe If they want a taller option, Ruscoe or Wilson. Or Ginni

I'd go with Cameron out - Ruscoe or Ryan in, (Frampton in the ruck). WHE and Carmichael out of 23. Reef and Ginni in.

If we know he’s going to do that we can set up appropriately. Honestly, it’s easier for our mids to set up knowing that the oppo ruckman is going to win the tap. Bringing the ball to ground is what Grundy always did, and it frustrates the hell out of everyone here because we couldn’t win clearances doing that.
And does McStay really create much of a contest? Nankervis absolutely dominated him on Saturday night, got hitouts at will in the last quarter, yet we won the clearance count comfortably for the term. We were out scored though, and our forward structure being compromised by McStays absence had a lot to do with that imo.

Except for that goal he kicked as a forward :p

He ended up being more mobile than Nankervis and he’s at the very least better suited to the role than most. Esp Pendles

I think you’re argument has merit. We are going to get smashed in the ruck anyway. Big O will probably consistently grab the ball in the ruck contest for Brisbane. The question is do we upset one part of the field being the ruck contests or add the forward line being out of kilter as well.
‘Steene is not ready to step up to AFL level. But will McStay compete around stoppages better than Steene or only similar?
Match committee have some thinking to do. Tough decision because I’m here arguing with myself & there is no clear winner.

Is it worth compromising our forward line for what will likely only be a very minor performance difference in probably one of the easiest positions to compensate for low performance?

Gee, our round 1 win against Geelong isn’t looking so impressive now …

The teams we’ve beaten are 8th, 13th and 18th.

Even Hawthorn have defeated better opponents than we have (North are 7th) *

* The meaningless twaddle of early season ladder positions.

No.

People need to stop throwing up Kelly's name. He's not up to it, hence why they've been playing him on a wing.

IIRC Wright spoke at length about our ruck stocks in his recent Herald Sun interview.

IIRC he said a team always needs at least five ruck options. And our rucks are:

Cameron
Cox
Begg
Stene
With McStay being able to go into the ruck if needed.

I guess with three of those now out injured, a fourth super raw, it comes down to McStay?

You could argue Kreuger as well, and so 4 out of 5 injured.
