A bit of an all-rounder? :D

Interesting pedigree. Simon's dad Kevin played footy for St Kilda in the 40s (alongside test star Keith Miller), Simon was briefly a VFL forward (after starring at Assumption), but ended up playing a few tests, a lot of one-dayers, and captaining Victoria's shield side for a few seasons. His (James') older brother was briefly a rising cricket star as well.

Picken. Dunkley. Richards. O'Donnell?

We like nabbing young 'uns with famous names.

This is something the doggies need to do asap to line up short term with the timeline of The Bont, Jack and long term with the time line of JUH, Astro,Timmy.

Keathy, Jonesy and Bruce are all over 30, let's start making moves now to lessen the impact in the next 2 years to have some developing KPD's.
We can then use our 1st rounders this year to try to fill the massive void when Libba hangs them up.

DEBUTANT DOG OFFERED DEAL

ARTHUR Jones has been offered a two-year contract extension at the Western Bulldogs, after bursting onto the scene in his debut last Thursday night.

The 19-year-old injected energy into the Dogs at Marvel Stadium after being named for his first game since being selected with pick No.43 in the 2021 AFL Draft.
The club has been working through the extension with his management in recent weeks and the deal is expected to be finalised in coming days. Jones was in the hunt for an early season debut last year but never broke through.

But after missing the first two rounds of the season with an adductor injury, Luke Beveridge opted to bring him straight into the senior side, rather than through the VFL, after a strong pre-season.

ANOTHER FATHER-SON LOOMS FOR DOGS

THE WESTERN Bulldogs' tall stocks look set to be further bolstered this year, with father-son prospect Jordan Croft showing exciting signs at under-18 level.

Croft missed the opening round of the Coates Talent League with ankle soreness but returned for the Calder Cannons last weekend and had 11 disposals, four marks and kicked a goal.

The son of former Bulldogs defender Matthew Croft is eligible for this year's draft and played as a key forward, with the 200cm talent's athleticism and speed impressing.

"He showed some real snippets with his contested marking ability and didn't look like it was the first game he'd played in six or seven months," said Calder talent manager Matthew Burton.
The 17-year-old spent time training with the Dogs over summer and could add another long-term key position player to the ranks at the club that has brought in Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (2020), Sam Darcy (2021) and Jedd Busslinger (2022) with their top picks in the past three drafts.

The Bulldogs had six father-sons on their list last year – Mitch Wallis, Tom Liberatore, Lachie Hunter, Zaine Cordy, Rhylee West and Darcy – before Wallis retired and Hunter (Melbourne) and Cordy (St Kilda) departed during the exchange period.

Matthew Croft played 186 games for the Bulldogs between 1991-2004. –

Someone must have reminded Bevo that we can sign players throughout the year

Generally shocked we actually signed a project player

Gives us another developing tall player, I did feel last year that I wanted us to pick up another developing tall defender just so we could have two key defenders ready to go when Keath and Jones finish up.

I like it. Having developing talls is essential as they take time to develop, whereas midfielders can hit the ground running.

The only other problem is hitting that vein of gold when picking a mid. Bont, Fyfe, Cripps etc all elite but not pick 1

We've got two first rounders this year (as the moment). Every chance we take a mid at the draft, out a forward with mid scope.

The signing of O'Donnell suggests we want to emulate the success Geelong has had with Blicavs. In the last few years, we've picked up Bedendo and Charlie Parker (the latter being very raw and not panning out), tried Hannan (not his ideal role), and had Poulter train with us and sign with the VFL side.

O'Donnell seems about as raw as it gets, but this is exactly what the Cat B list is for. I like it, probably very unlikely he makes it as a successful, long term AFL player but seems to have the athletic profile that means it would pay off big time if he does get up to scratch

Sorry if it’s been answered but does the O’Donnell signing take away our open list spot?

Didn't know teams could still sign cat b rookies not to mention there was no word on here from our itks about him being eligible to be signed!

Do we look at Dev Robertson this year? He’s not exactly a big name but I’m keen to shake up the midfield and if gotten fairly cheaply could be a good addition in the right age bracket to be Libbas understudy, big bodied athletic mid in the modern day mould whose a two way runner and excels defensively.

I’m starting to like the idea of shifting Macrae out of the centre bounces as we’ve done recently. No harm in running him off the HFF as the extra mid, he’ll still play mostly around the ball and run the ground but just not see as many centre bounces which isn’t his strong suit with the way the games being played in the middle right now.

A 21yo like Robertson & our first pick on an 18yo midfielder to add to Baz & the aging brigade in Bont, Macrae, Libba, Adzy and im feeling a lot more confident about our list going forward

Obviously highly rated at the club, will have opportunity soon with Keath and Bruce getting on.
