The psychological weight on Hipwood tonight must be massive. Genuinely feel for him. At the end of the day he’s just a human and he’s been absolutely hammered this week.

Here's another hot take, forward in a team that's had a rough start to the season has low stats. Looking forward to them getting into Hawkins with the same gusto.

Llllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiioooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnssssssssssss!

Why have we stuck with three tall defenders when their forward line is literally one tall bloke and a bunch of small to mediums? We are going to get cut to ribbons down there.

Not sure how to quote from other threads but any chance one of Payne/Joyce/Andrews plays forward? I'm thinking Wilmot looked good in defence Q4 last week, Prior takes his spot on the wing, one of Payne/Joyce goes forward replacing Fort.

I rate Payne more than Joyce in defence, but not sure Joyce can play forward so it might be one of Payne or Rayner.

Should be interesting to see what Fagan has in mind (or he might just leave Payne/Joyce/Andrews/Rayner all in defence but I agree it's not ideal against Pies forward line)

Most likely of those options is Rayner goes forward/mid IMO.... Payne has the agility and pace to play on medium forwards and some smalls, not sure on Joyce's ability v a smaller player.

I'm comfortable with Joyce or Payne lining up on any of their forwards

Even Andrews last week was playing on a smaller opponent

Key is to slow their ball movement

Not sure why we dropped Fort? We had an advantage in the ruck department and just gave it away. Two rucks vs a makeshift ruck. Now it's fingers crossed Oscar doesn't get injured. Not sure we need three calls in defence tonight? Starcevich can always play tall as well.

Anyway I still think we should win. Hoping the boys bounce back after a rare week of media scrutiny.

We need 7+ goals out of Daniher/Hipwood/Cameron. Berry to shut down De Goey.

Big game so hoping for a big performance that we know this team is capable of producing.

We also need to do our best to match their run on the outside.

That’s what it was.It would be awful to look slower and on top have the Pies sharking the extra hit outs anyway

If Rayner goes forward and the forward line all help each other we'll win this game provided the M/F gets its share at the contest.

We have a ruck advantage so not averse to thumping it forward provided out forwards/mids are on to it and get into position.

We need to slow them down when they get on a roll and try to limit that chaotic streaming forward into our defence.

There's a dozen things we can do but mostly we need to contest ferociously and get a bit smarter with ball in hand. They'll get frustrated and make mistakes if their game style is limited more than they've been used to

Its still a bit of an ask the way we've been going but doable for sure.

I think where Collingwoods lack of rucks will hurt them is in the forwardline. Johnson and McStay can tire themselves out smashing into Oscar if they want

We just need to quickly get the ball to the outside and not let their more mobile ruck impact the play at ground level
And if Billy Frampton pushes up from the backline at times, we can expose their lack of height in their backline as well.

Funny how far the dependency on Rayner has evolved this season.

Put him in midfield
Leave him in defense
We need him in the forwardline

Seems like we need 3 Rayners all of a sudden :D.. not complaining at all !

We had the same advantage last week and it didn’t work out. We need run.

Wouldn't have dropped Fort. If the reason is two rucks was a luxury, I would have dropped Oscar.

Very little evidence suggests we can win. But evidence isn't playing. Might scrape a win, but wouldn't put my hard earned on it.

Thumping the ball 20m out of the ruck into our forward half is underrated in my opinion. Often mids are forced to hack or scramble a kick out of centre anyway. If Oscar has to the chance to smash a few ala Clark Keating style - I'm all for it. Just have any of - Zorko - McCarthy - Bailey or Charlie waiting to pounce on it.

Our small forwards just need to react quickly and lead to the ball when the 20m thump heads their way.

One other underrated skill I've noticed Collingwood practice is around bad bounce. In line with their running game, they literally use their body like a wall while running forward when they're unable to take possession. One of their tall defenders Nathan Murphy does it so well. Whether its in a crouched state or running forward / diving, they tend to make sure the ball will either bounce off their body or hit them somewhere so it'll stay in front of him in the end. Gives the player another opportunity to tap it, kick it forward or take possession. This way he makes sure he can impact the contest one more time and avoids the ball slipping behind them to some other free opposition player.
