The criticisms of Culley and Yeo are a bit rough. Both are coming back from injury and probably should have played WAFL but for our injury issues. Agreed Culley hasn’t been great but give him a few games to build fitness and touch.

It’s been the disposal, especially by senior players, that is the real issue. Our effort is there but we are a complete mess disposal wise.

Effort is there

Can see how we’re trying to play which is encouraging

Execution is missing - poor skills and decision making has hurt. If we could clean those up we’re it’d be a lot closer

Defenders are pressing up too high giving away too much space out the back and often giving one of their forwards 20m of space behind the defence

By contrast Melbourne ALWAYS have a defender sagging back giving them a plus one whenever we go forward and disabling the dump kick forward that they’re able to do

Given we all need a positive, Hunt has been really good. I always thought of him as a bit of an outside player but he has a solid crack at the contests and gives us some real drive out of the backline. A good pick up
Was always a good well balanced player at Melbourne. Salem and Langdon just kinda pushed him out. I think the headband made people assume he was soft

Mid game melts are a proud tradition but I’m well into this, unsure about all the tears.

Given up some soft goals but also playing a good brand in bursts against the most suffocating team in footy.

Premiership favourite is showing some cooler heads than the wooden spoon second favourite, but can’t fault the work rate. Into this.
I'm happy enough with the effort and even the scoreline, just keen to see a bit more from some of the young guys. Tough for them when they are playing midfield with BW and Snake as the ruckmen I know.

Not sure what is the use in complaining about players in their first handful of games getting outmatched when hit outs are going against 3:1 and the opposition midfield is Oliver, Petracca, Viney, with Brayshaw and Hunter running on the wings.

Given the circumstances, the team is doing a fantastic job to break even in the territory battle.

We're a lot closer to being genuinely competitive again than most suggest.

Particularly when Yeo's actually been alright considering the role he's playing.

Culley probably a victim of the over inflated expectations some had of him in the first place.

He has some potential at this level but will need time
Sounded like the next Leigh Matthews prior to the MSD - but it was probably just the AFL media trying to drum up some hype.

Pretty positive so far.

Positives:
Good effort and intensity.
Whoever gave Gaff a roast needs a raise. Looking like a different player. Tackling and competing hard.
Pretty much all the young blokes really showing signs.

Negatives
Atrocious skills are letting us down.
Whoever is Gaffs skills coach needs the sack. Still can't hit a forward 15m in the clear under no pressure.
No connection between mids and forwards.
Ruck. Ugh, does anything more need to be said. Second week in a row the opposition ruck doing as they please, operating at >30% hitout to advantage.
Can someone also please teach Williams how to mark.

We're making demons have to work for it around the ground, but they're still managing to score every second time they go forward. On paper or defence shouldn't be this bad.

Tim Kelly on track for an AFL record with 601 metres gained to half time?

I hate this post...but its correct
We all hate it, but facts are that we as fans are happy to not get smashed by most teams and try and win games vs other bottom teams, which WC failed with last week and rd 1. That's the kind of expectation that loser clubs of the league have

Put it this way for how poor Culleys been.
This is the bottom of the list for disposals.

Culleys impact so far is almost equal to Rotham who is our sub and hasn't even got on the field yet.

3 possessions in a half for a midfielder. It's poor. Back to the WAFL and learn how to find the footy.

I don’t know how you can sit through 2022 eagles and not be so up for this. Some forward organisation away from being right in the thick of it with Melbourne.

Melbourne who have two 50 point wins through three games of footy by the way.
They are a good chance to do us in by 10 goals today but folks who think we are playing exactly the same as 2022 have their eyes painted on.

The first thing we needed to fix was the contest. It looks well underway. If we can add some polish we are going to start scoring. If we can put scoreboard pressure on a lot of our defensive problems will improve organically.

What's even more pleasing is that we haven't rolled over in the face of last week's bad injury fest. Last year we would have seen the group using ittl as an excuse to not show up
