Simple answer would be to ban raising the knees at ruck contests or it’s an automatic free kick. You can jump but legs mustn’t bend. Simples!Coxy might be in the gun with Chris Scott, after defending the actions of the Hawks ruckman in kneeing Blicavs. Somehow though I don't think Mase would be too worried about that

Interesting that Bucks also took the same perspective as Coxy during the "On the Couch".
A new rule could be on the horizon - throwing up the ball instead of bouncing it at centre contests.

I s******ed when I saw the headline of Cox teaching locals how to play the ruck correctly but after reading the article, he has a point. It's also quite significant that the 3 incidents that have happened like this have all been Geelong players. I wonder if their ruck coach is teaching them to cross over to the other side of the line as soon as the ball is bounced and whether this is initiating the early contact.Coxy might be in the gun with Chris Scott, after defending the actions of the Hawks ruckman in kneeing Blicavs. Somehow though I don't think Mase would be too worried about that

It took me longer than I'd care to admit to work out you didn't mean someone trying to jump from the ground with straight legs lolSimple answer would be to ban raising the knees at ruck contests or it’s an automatic free kick. You can jump but legs mustn’t bend. Simples!
Makes for a boring looking jump. Two blokes vertically lifting off the ground together, close enough to give each other a peck on the cheek. I would prefer to see the more aggressive assists to levitation and positioning remain.Simple answer would be to ban raising the knees at ruck contests or it’s an automatic free kick. I'm still thinking that's what he meant as you can see from my comment so you're way ahead of me.It took me longer than I'd care to admit to work out you didn't mean someone trying to jump from the ground with straight legs lol
Yeah, and call it a tip off rather than a bounce!!!!Simple answer would be to ban raising the knees at ruck contests or it’s an automatic free kick. You can jump but legs mustn’t bend. Simples!
Mason Muralidaran claims his knees are naturally bent and then in a controlled environment runs around with bent knees to prove his case. What if Darrell Hair is umpiring?
Still run and jump but at the moment of contact, the knees must be straight (well less than let’s say 20 degrees)It took me longer than I'd care to admit to work out you didn't mean someone trying to jump from the ground with straight legs lol
Seems like that would be more dangerous with the potential to land straight legged and hyperextendStill run and jump but at the moment of contact, the knees must be straight (well less than let’s say 20 degrees)
What do you mean "don't try and tell me the AFL does it to minimise PCL injuries" - it either has led to a reduction in them, or it has notIf you remove the centre line and the run up circle, then the bigger bodied rucks can still stand their ground whilst the leaping rucks can take off and go for the ball. It gives all shapes and sizes of rucks a chance, like it always did until the VFL's over-reaction to Peter Moore and Gary Dempsey's wrestling match.
If umpires just paid frees in that game, none of this centre circle/line rubbish would have been necessary.
And don't try and tell me the AFL does it to minimise PCL injuries, before the line ruckmen learned how to protect themselves with their legs and upper bodies, the line just made rucks run straight at each other, smashing their knees together. It was ridiculous that it was brought in in the first place and its even moreso now. The athlete's have got bigger yet the circle and the line restrict their natural abilities to control their leaps and landings.
How often do you see a bloke land straight with his leg locked and do his knee I think quite often and they look so innocuous but it is still a 12 mth injury.Seems like that would be more dangerous with the potential to land straight legged and hyperextend

I agree regarding the line. I don't think you're right regarding the circle. Two blokes running from further is a better spectacle. I think they were genuine with their attempt to reduce PCL injuries.Gouki, its like every other rule they bring in. They do it for the LOOK of the game, not to "protect" players. Deliberate out of bounce cuts down rucking influence as well....its all about the LOOK.
I doubt they did it for the look. Bullocking ruckmen is a worse aesthetic spectacleGouki, its like every other rule they bring in. They do it for the LOOK of the game, not to "protect" players. Deliberate out of bounce cuts down rucking influence as well....its all about the LOOK.
