I had a lovely encounter with the Big Dipper in a Vinnies store in Rosebud this afternoon and he approached me!
I wear a prosthesis and he walked over and asked me how I lost my leg. He was genuinely interested and asked a number of questions.
I was wearing a Collingwood rain jacket so we soon got onto the Pies. Dipper said he loved watching us and said Coxy has become a really important player. He said he was always an accurate kick but the round the corner in round one was brilliant.
He was just as engaging with my wife whom he called sweetheart.
We parted with a handshake and he spoke some kind words.
A very unexpected and memorable moment.

Thanks for sharing Domus.

Yeah he was a top bloke the time I met him also.

Could be out for a month.
Trying to work this out. A haematoma just means the bruising was greater in amount and a collection of blood has formed within the bruise. Not sure why that would keep him out for a long time unless very big and concerns playing might cause further bleeding and enlargment.

Dipper was a massive Pies fan as a kid. But he grew up in Kew, so was residentially tied to Hawthorn. Something about supporting the Pies… it makes you a better person.

A big softy who was one of the toughest blokes ever to pull on a jumper. Great story

Hope big Cox gets better soon, huge part of our side.

Indeed, he broke Alan Stonehams face by accident, and broke plenty of others on purpose.

I met him at the footy, most natural nice big hearted bloke, not full of himself and I would be if I had done half what he did.

He played with one of my bros at North Kew, who were pretty hopeless and short of players and had some kids from the under 18s making up numbers.

Dipper was only 18 or so and went into the opposition rooms before the game and told them not to belt the kids.

He was so respected even as a teenager by the men in that league they agreed.

I said this too. Normally I'd think 4 weeks is more indicative of a cracked rib, or some internal. perhaps actual lung damage from the contact. We won't be shown scans nor the medical report so its all supposition.

I think the haematoma is on the lung. Risk of pulmonary embolism?

No risk of PE. thats a clot coming from elsewhere, e.g leg veins, then travelling up through the heart and lodging in the arteries of the lungs causing an imbalance of perfusion and ventilation. Big one will kill you.

A haematoma.on the lung itself, a bruised lung, could impair lung performance if big enough but moresubtle than a PE.

There was mention of internal bleeding so haematoma might just be the grab all title they’re giving his injury.

Pretty good podcast this week from the big fella said he definitely won't play this week, gives Jayden Stevo a bit of a whack and even mentions Pendles can't kick 40 meters no more which surprised me.anyway it's worth a look it's on YouTube for those interested go pies

Reckon the kick Billy received and then goaled from to bury the tankers last year went a lot further than 40m…
