I don't even answer calls from numbers I don't recognise. They will leave a message if it's important and I've yet to have a voice mail from a scammer that wasn't obvious.
Me neither - if the person knows me or really needs to speak with me, they'll leave a voicemail. A few times I've received scam voicemails where a recording is speaking in Chinese. If I knew Chinese I would know what the hell they're ringing me about ....

Weitering may have made some mistakes, but financial scams and crimes are a huge, escalating problem. It's an arms race between the technology and knowledge of the good guys and bad guys.

Easy enough to find an SMS provider who don't worry about verifying the legitimacy of a number before sending it through. The same way you'd be horrified how many Government departments (let alone private organisations) operate mail servers without similar verification standards in place, leading to emails being sent from ronald@mcdonalds.com

I always though Sir Ronald Mac was dodgy.

I've seen a few scams / attempted scams, of various types, and believe me younger / educated / technologically literate people are far from immune.

In fact I think one of the problems with younger people, who live their lives online, can tend to be a bit laissez faire about emails, texts, (what appears to be coming from) Paypal etc etc.
That's fair. It's unlikely the 3 billion a year we're getting ripped off for is all old people. I will say though that in my personal experience, older people are more likely to fall for the easy to spot scams.

ABC is so far left leaning it’s not funny. I think the top 20% of income earners pay 70-80% of the total tax take a fact conveniently omitted in such an article. And with bracket creep, 120k is hardly being rich these days. In fact a single person on 120k in MLB or SYD can barely afford a property
Let's not get into a political debate about income vs capital wealth ... but something like the bottom 50% of earners pay about 2% of total tax with an income split point of about $42k. I think $150k puts you in the top 10% of earners. The top 1% earn over $550k and pay something like 40% of all income tax. Statistics damn statistics amiright.

My point about the numbers was just how small $700 million is in the scheme of things, it definitely is not the only cash in the bucket that we have to choose if it goes to the starving kids at the orphanage or to the stadium.

Bottom line, I'm excited, got my face paint ready. Go DEVILS!!!

The list contains 2 players from each club. Gold Coast doesn't have ANY eligible players at all, but they had to name someone...

Gold Coast don't have ANY AFL Hall of Fame members, and the requirement for players to be retired for 5+ years limits the options even further.

With 192 games to his name, Harbrow is arguably the best of their semi-eligible players (noting that none are AFL Hall of Fame members, and thus none are eligible for AFL Legend status). He's pretty much their nomination by default, due to an almost complete lack of alternatives.

Have a look at their list of past-players, and tell me who you would select ahead of him - noting the 5+ year retirement criteria:
AFL Tables - Player Statistics - Gold Coast

To put it bluntly, I can't think of anyone better - which is partly an indictment on the club, partly about the club's recent admission to the competition, and partly a reflection of the club's choices when poaching players from other clubs as part of their start-up concessions.

Of their top-12 game players...
  • 6 are still playing with GC
  • 3 are still playing, with other clubs
  • Only 3 are retired - GAJ, Harbrow, and Rischitelli
Neither GAJ, nor Rischitelli are eligible (5-year retirement rule), so Harbrow it is... by default.
I think that list is just players that are being included as downloadable content in the AFL 23 game?

Yep number cloning. Also becoming more prevalent
Its not helped by legit govt departments having sloppy practices. I've had the ATO call me, then ask for verifying info like DOB etc to ID me. When I refused, they cracked the shits. Rang them back on general line and blasted them for being idiots.

AGL do the same, ask me for my details to id me, no, you rang me idiot.

Absolutely. I have experienced this. The same ANZ message on my phone as per normal popped up about a “fraudulent transaction“ needing me to act. Instead I immediately rang the bank on normal contract numbers and determined it was a scam. they acknowledged scammers have the ability to “use” the ANZ (or any other banks) profile on messages. I don’t really understand how but it’s happening.

In the financial services industry, many cases of clients well known to Adviser communicating to their Adviser they are travelling O/S for a few mths (and confirmed verbally before they leave) and all comms to be done by email, then when away, the clients email is hacked - at a very high level - and the person then communicating with Adviser is acting in exactly the same manner as client (asking about Advisers kids by name, talking about how their travels are going etc). Next thing client needs a few hundred k to pay for house Reno’s or loan to kids or friends ASAP (often multi million dollar accounts where this stuff does happen semi regularly) and IF the Adviser does this the money is lost as soon as it leaves the clients bank account. Banks and police can’t end up tracking it as it moves so fast, ultimately the Adviser is on the hook financially for any losses as need to legally VERBALLY confirm each transfer each time with the Client despite many clients actually saying they don’t want to be disturbed whilst cruising down the Nile, trekking Machu Picchu etc

please be aware…
You chose wisely. I dont trust anything on a phone. People should be wise to it by now.

Thanks for letting me know. Seems like I've been hacked, I'll sort it out asap 🍔

I'm the greatest philanthropist this world has ever come across. 💪
