Autopsy Round 10, 2023: Hawthorn demolish the Eagles

If ...

I have been riding the Hawks for tanking all season and they then win a game

Then...

I also have the remove draft picks bus in the garage and that will be fully fired up in the second half of the season.

Seriously, doesn't that feel better than a wooden spoon? Great for the boys, the spirit, the culture.

Preview of what could come when everything clicks.

Surely Weddle can garner a rising star nod this week. Mackenzie not far behind.

Good outing by the guys. Refrain from saying “great” because it was the eagles and their injury list is horrific. They couldn’t beat a lot of VFL sides atm.

Bit nervous for Reeves as we would need him against the Saints.

Nice to get the W.

Pretty even spread of players contributing today.

Would love to see Weddle or Cam get the nomination this week.

Confidence and skills building game.

Are the Hawks foolish for hurting their chances of getting pick 1?

First time a bottom placed team has won by +100pts?
The third time this has happened. But the latest in the season that it has happened.

178 - 1979 R04 - coll v stk

TBH Weagles are playing 4D chess here:
  • AFL need to come up with a 20th side
  • Weagles already playing like an expansion side
  • Forces AFL to find a 20th side somewhere other than WA
  • Weagles preserve their WA membership domination

A heap of players I could highlight, but one needs a special mention.

14 disposals and 9 tackles from one C.MacDonald. In 40% game time.

Also (and this doesn't need to become a roasting contest), but I don't understand how Chad gets his way back into this side when Brockman and Butler are putting in performances like that. Not a one time thing either. Brocky has been doing it every week and Buttsy has played his two best career games back to back.

If...
Hawthorn won by more than 100 points against West Coast

Then...
I've been wrong about them tanking the entire time.

So...
Hawthorn couldn't have beaten West Coast by that margin.

Hard game to review but the best positives

-Young guys all had really strong games . You can see the confidence building each game individually and as a group
  • winning all 4 quarters
  • midfield humming . This is why we needed to move a few on and develop a more dynamic midfield group . Get on top and grind the opposition with speed abd spread. This will hold us in great stead in 30-40 games against better oppo . Today was a look into the future for that .

Large game from Weddle surely thats hard to ignore for a RS nom this week .

We will roll a good side or two before this years out .

9 tackles is insane in the time he had on ground - nearly equal highest on the ground.

Terrible opposition, but that was fun.

Nash seems to play a career best game every week at the moment.

Blanck the first defender to hold Allen to less than 2 goals this year. He was really good and is important to our structure. Sicily was able to dominate as a result.

Weddle terrific and exciting, as was Mitchell.

So… it wasn’t as close as I predicted

I’m so glad that not only did the boys get a win, they handed out a smashing

We now know that tanking is not in the DNA

Unlike some others I didn’t mind the commentary as I thought Gerard and Kingie had a fair bit of positive commentary around our young blokes

Loved Jai’s game - so hard in and under and was rewarded with a goal
Brockman, Lewis, Weddle, both Mc’s, butler, Mitchell… the list goes on, all had a positive good day out

It was so good to see the smiles and the enjoyment in the room
