Autopsy Round 10, 2023: Hawthorn demolish the Eagles

We got a glimpse today of what our running defenders will do when we are a dominant side. Impey, Weddle, Seamus, CJ and BMac are going to be exciting to watch.

the Midfield group is continuing to grow, including the two rucks. Not perfect yet, but seriously good and will be a weapon in years to come.

Butler, Brockman, Moore and hopefully OSullivan will be a nice mozzie fleet in the forward half. We just need one more dominant KF to help Lewis.

it is coming along nicely.

I know he cops it (and based on his recent performances, deservedly so) but full credit to Kosi today. Competed really well and rewarded with two goals. Made it much easier for Brocky, Butler and Breust to feed off some crumbs having a second genuine target.

Structurally we looked so much better having two key pillars.

Was against poor oppo but hopefully something for him to build on. Sam is probably giving him a month to turn his career around and I wish him all the best.

Wow.
I don't think I have seen a worse performance from an AFL team.

They wouldn't win the WAFL comp with what they dished up today.

Kids getting more confidence the big positive but let's not kid ourselves Box Hill would have given us more of a contest than that.

And the AFL thinks it would be a good idea to add another franchise and somehow find another 40 players who are up to AFL standard. Strange thought process from the AFL.

I hope todays performance means CJ isn’t an auto selection next week.

I want more than anything for him to succeed but think with Impey/CJ/Morrison all in the one side we just look like we are going to turn it over a lot. Felt the balance struck just right today despite a fairly weak opponent

Seamus's wheels out of the backline are a game changer for us - he is RAPID and a good decision maker/user of the ball.

He's also a little more solid than I expected to go along with his toughness
Mitchell is what daicos could be if he had a defensive bone in his body

I reckon that's the least talented outfit to take a footy field since the Essendon top up side.

Loads of positives in that. The backline structure looked better with Blanck and Hardwick on lockdown duties, Frost and Sis intercepting everything and SMitch, Weddle, Impey, Bramble running it out. Can see CJ displacing Bramble, but it was good to see Bramble running straight lines.

Midfield clicking nicely, and pleased CMac got some time in there.

We still need to improve our last kick inside 50, but otherwise not much wrong today.

Blanck was exceptional today.

Sicily with his best game for the season - no surprise as he was let off the leash with Blacnk back in the side.
Balance of the backline was good.

Though obviously the opposition forward line was depleted.

Blanck - Frost for the big guys

Sicily - Weddle as 3rd tall / swingman

Mitchell - Impey as rebound small run/carry

Hardwick - stay at home small.

Would be great to bed that down for a month if possible.

A heap of players I could highlight, but one needs a special mention.

14 disposals and 9 tackles from one C.MacDonald. In 40% game time.

Also (and this doesn't need to become a roasting contest), but I don't understand how Chad gets his way back into this side when Brockman and Butler are putting in performances like that. Not a one time thing either. Brocky has been doing it every week and Buttsy has played his two best career games back to back.
Agree re Chad. I’d also be concerned if I was Maguiness or Morrison. Kosi still not out of the woods yet either. Being interstate I don’t watch box hill but would like to see Ned Long given a crack at Kosis role. Have liked him when I’ve seen him and I know he has the size, might not be natural for him but would like to have a look.

It's not a fair comparison - one is a Hawk and the other is a seagull 💪
