That was our worst performance for the year easily. May as well have stayed in Melbourne.

Someone needs to take Balta aside and tell him a man’s got to know his limitations. He tries to do too much and stuffs it up.
Disagree, he is still young and plenty of upside and learning to come. Balta rebounding off the backline could be a weapon with his booming kick and pace. Especially when we are unable to string together 2 possessions on a behind kick in. Balta was the least of our problems yesterday, he gave it a crack when many others were just meek

Not sure why people are so down on the team... We were a 5-10% shot at best at winning this. The bye couldn't have come at a worse time. So far I think only 1 or 2 teams have won after the bye. It *ing stinks

And they played teams also coming off the bye

Typical AFL though. Make us play a top 4 team on their home deck off a bye. Didn’t think the premiership tax had to paid this far along

I think you may have picked the problem we had last night. The lions mids do run forward of the ball and the midfield we had last night was not quick enough to go with them. This has been our problem all year. To me our problem started when we recruited both Toranto and Hopper. I guess it was just too good to pass up. Then we kept Jack Graham and Trent Cotchin. Add to them Dusty, Jack Ross, Liam Baker and Thompson Dow and we have more slower paced inside mids than Carlton. The only quick mids are Bolton and Short. We need to get more outside midfielders in the side and that means hard decisions need to be made on Cotchin and Graham in particular.
Graham is a huge concern, there is just no role for him anymore, Dow was actually recruited for his fast hands and speed but unfortunately he just isn’t making it. I think it’s time we unleashed our wingers as well. Let them hunt the footy instead of playing sacrificial roles all the time. The same cattle are simply not there anymore to play the same game style and the ones that are still there are nearing the end.

THE GOOD: Brisbane would have beaten EVERY team in the AFL tonight and even the great Brisbane three-peat teams.

THE BAD: We wouldn't have beaten ANY other team tonight, nor the wooden spoon-winning combos from the days with Kevin Bartlett at the helm.

In all seriousness, three premierships were great but time we close the lid on the past and stopped dwelling on it and started looking forward.
Part of that is, no free passes and gifting of games because of a player's legacy. Games on merit from now one and that means blokes like Jack Graham (McIntosh to a lesser extent tonight) go back to the twos and work their butt off and earn an A grade game.

PS. Pickett should play Twos and have some fun getting a kick. Mind is clearly not there right now (and understandably) and just needs to get back to the basics.
No way should we drop Pickett

Oh look I know he’s still quite young and mostly he is very good. Just sometimes he hesitates for a second and then gets caught. Last night he went for a run, bounced the ball and lost it. He did take some nice marks.

I guess I need to remember Rance wasn’t great to begin with and look how he turned out.

Look at that heat map. They had a plan for us and nailed it. Win the pill on wings and then attack through the corridor.

We were so predictable. Maybe we went into our shells after some bad turnovers but this type of game is pre stand rule.

It really isn't too hard for the AFL to schedule all teams coming off the bye against each other. It's so stupid but its the AFL where nothing makes sense.

Not that it helps but they will review it. What happens if anything is anyone’s guess.

guinea pigged us again

Rule changes have made it so there are fewer game plan options now and they all rely more heavily on talent rather than being able to build something based on effort or novel gameplan. Actually makes it rather boring as teams are gunna have to spend time near the bottom and get lucky with the draft, development rather than being a genuine chance each year to win a few games and get lucky. Teams like North, WCE and Hawthorn are seriously no chance for the next few seasons. And we look like we are destined for the same. Shits me that in the meantime our supporters are propping up the leech clubs, one of which is Brisbane.

They didn't allow us to move the ball with any of our normal fluency coming off the half backline. That and our midfield getting obliterated the footy kept coming back so quickly. Like you said, they killed us through the corridor. Also we're missing big Lynchy so badly. He's a contested marking beast down the lines. Gives us a huge advantage to stop the oppo coming back the other way.
