What about try entice Jason Castagna out of retirement

Club definitely wants to take him, it's just going to be a matter of how.
Adding 800 points to this year's draft hand may require borrowing from next year unless some pick swaps happen between other clubs to open it up.

Or it may need to be done in parts, trades that unlock ~200 points at a time, then swapping those on again.

Again, examples only that I thought were somewhat realistic - absolutely not pretending or hoping or predicting this will happen whatsoever;

6 to Bombers for 11+30 (+207 pts) (Bombers move way up into the pointy end).
11 to Melbourne for 15+34 (+325 pts) (They may be happy to move 15 up to 11, especially as they also have Freo's pick 4 rn).
15+56 to Sydney for 24+41+43 (+269 pts) (24 + scraps becomes 15 + scraps).

That'd gain us 801 points and let us take all 4 guys reasonably comfortably.

We'd then have: 24, 26, 29, 30, 34, 41, 43, 44, 45, 62, 63, 69 which we would use to bid, turning them into actual picks 2, 8, 11, 23 (predicted).

I reckon that’s a safe play

Nick Daicos got picked 4th, behind JHF, Sam Darcy and Finn Callaghan.

The f/s and academy bids are a lottery but that was a fair dinkum farce at the time and looks even worse now.
Expecting Walter bid at 1 and Read at 5 b/c everyone love/hates the Suns.
Errol Gulden got bid on at 32, anything is possible in the fun world of the AFL draft.

He doesn't get talked about by the draft watchers on BF. Might slide to whatever picks we have left late in the draft.

Always best to plan for the worst possible outcome, but fingers crossed Read and Rogers slide a bit. Walter will be bid on at pick 2 imo.

Where it gets really interesting is if the Suns make the finals and we can only match two bids.

No need to trade in advance to ensure we’ve got points for Graham.
Just see where bids come on day 1 and then make any trades necessary before day 2 if we need to.

Gws didn't want to piss off the powerful Collingwood . I think based on last year you could trade with GWS.
Eg 6,25 for 9,11. That gives you more points, to then trade 9,11 for other picks. You will probably have enough points to flick a pick in the 20's for a 2024r2.

GWS pretty serious about stocking up their hand to try and get pick 1 off the Eagles right?

I think trying to get as many points as possible whilst moving out of the first round is important. If we don’t, those picks get even more swallowed up day 1 and we don’t have collateral to trade in day 2.

You’re definitely right in what you’re saying, but it’s just a matter of making sure what’s remaining after we get the picks swallowed up is still tradable and usable.

Expecting the dees to go all out. They currently have pick 4 and 15 that's a pretty good start. Missed out on Humphrey last year good chance they will go again.

don't think Reid is that good, potential #1 flop.

If I were Wet Toast, I'd take Pick 4 and 15 for the #1 pick and run. Thats a cracking deal.

The way he has been hyped for two years they could ask for more. The media have been on Read in an insane way.

Reckon two top 10 picks will be what WCE will want, with one being a top 5.

So if you're wc, your team is a rabble, you can't take the best and second best kids in the draft, the next best option is a 170cm small forward.. terrible news for them. I believe it should be a 4 year contract for 1st round picks, with higher and tier salaries. You could go further and make it 4 year contracts for all draftees but imo that would make clubs less likely to roll the dice in 3rd and 4th round draft picks, and an increase in mature aged picks who are proven commodities in vfl, sanfl, wafl etc, even amature leagues, which wouldn't be a bad thing.

The VFL is rigged.
Draft manipulation

The VFL need to come out and fix this.
It’s a constant issue of the top 5 in the past few drafts
He should be banned from the draft.
If you want to choose where you want to play, DON'T NOMITATE FOR THE DRAFT.

There are multiple avenues to the AFL these days

Can Read beat an AFL forward 1v1 in a defensive contest? If not, don’t play him there either. We already have a skinny Andrew trying to do that and he is two years ahead in his development than Read. Or can he run 16ks from contest to contest on a wing? Yes we need wingers, but maybe we should recruit one first, ey.

It was reported in the last game that Reed could run 2 km in under six minutes. If that's the case, he can play wing in any team. Most teams would be stoked to have a player run under six minutes, let alone one that stands at two meters tall.

He might lose a bit of running power when he puts on muscle?
