Jarrod Berry,

Shoulder seem to be cooked but Has the ability to play well inside but been stuck on the wing for 2 years now, can run all day and kick goals from the wing.

Lions may let him walk for cheap now Fletcher has stepped up + Levi Ashcroft coming soon.
Contracts runs out 2024, Could use the brother excuse too (Tom)

192cm/89kg versatile player, Cons shoulders cooked, not playing in his best position.

Only mentioning as we are really low on wingers with Ellis 30, Sharp out the door, Weller ACL, Atkins maybe better half back, leaves us very thin.

Could we play Jake Rogers on the wing next year? Very quick, clean hands and a good decision maker with the ball in hand.

Geez mate, I like your positivity and I know you are GC thru and thru, but for chr*ts sake, the kid is 18yo*, he's not even on our list yet, it's still 4-5 months before that may even happen, and you're asking people if he can play wing NEXT YEAR...........I like the thought, but geez he could get hit by a truck before then, hopefully not, but he might even get to go to another Club........so imo you need to temper your expectations.......hate to be the grinch but c'mon, try and live in the present and let the future look after itself........we all have our dreams.....but most are beyond our control.

Fair enough. I'm sure Hardwick has already identified any list holes and has moves in mind for the trade/free agency period. If he thinks we need more outside mids then I'm sure he'll try his best to convince someone to join us in the off season.

Hardwick is currently backpacking in Europe dude. He isn't thinking about our list holes ffs

Could definitely see Rogers starting his career as that high half fwd. Loves feeding off to the runners and could see Anderson and miller really enjoying getting on the outside of him. Read probably takes a bit longer but could see him starting on a wing and floating back to help the defence, eventually putting on some kgs and being a darcy Moore style chb.

I thought this was a forum where we spit balled ideas.

As good as our academy kids may potentially be, the reality is that if we are relying on them to immediately plug the holes in our list by shoehorning them into positions and expecting the team to significantly improve, then we have likely failed in our list strategy.

Can Rogers reliably kick goals? If not, I don’t want him anywhere near the forward line. We have enough people not contributing to the score as is… let him develop in the VFL and come in when ready and proven in a position he has trained in for some time.

Can Read beat an AFL forward 1v1 in a defensive contest? If not, don’t play him there either. We already have a skinny Andrew trying to do that and he is two years ahead in his development than Read. Or can he run 16ks from contest to contest on a wing? Yes we need wingers, but maybe we should recruit one first, ey.

Can Walter already kick 30+ goals a season straight up against AFL defenders? If not, is he really better than King, Luko or Chol for next year? Can he be a forward ruck like Chol? Just let him develop further and then replace one of them when ready or step up with injury when needed.

Be excited about these kids, as they look damn promising. But seeing draft picks as our saviours has been this club’s problem since inception.

This draft is our future. But we need some recruitment for the now if we want to improve quickly.

100% agree. As promising as these kids are, they need to earn their spot.

Didn't Tarryn Thomas' charges get dropped yesterday?

You never know....

I have him in my Supercoach side so have been watching him quite closely the last few weeks. Very classy, looks very unfit though. If you got him fitter there is still a player there. Would be good at half back.

Nick Daicos got picked 4th, behind JHF, Sam Darcy and Finn Callaghan.

The f/s and academy bids are a lottery but that was a fair dinkum farce at the time and looks even worse now.
Expecting Walter bid at 1 and Read at 5 b/c everyone love/hates the Suns.

Jed Walter - 2
Ethan Read - 8
Jake Rogers - 11

We have 4,320 draft points as it stands today. If the draft ends up going exactly like this - we'd need 5,397 points. With the 20% discount, that's 4,317 points. We'd be able to get all three with every pick we have this year, no deficit needed.

Don't suspect we'll need much in addition to the picks this year - maybe just some late thirds/fourths as insurance money.

Puts us in an interesting position - do we try and bring in lots more points this year and potentially get a fourth draft pick wherever our points-remaining pick lands (don't think we need this option). Or, do we try and buy insurance picks this year by trading further back into the draft for extra draft points this year by swapping into next year?

For example, (using picks as they stand today) pick 6 could be traded to picks 11+30+F2nd to the Bombers. This would mean a draft points surplus trade for this year (+207 for picks 11+30); and an additional pick for next year. Bombers get to trade way up, and we get insurance and a later pick next year.

Thomas is all class on field not so much off. If he has sorted his off field stuff out he may be just the player we need. There would definitely be some risk in it but hardwick at the tigers was always willing to work with players with some troubled past.

Will Graham could be the drafted too? Not sure if he gets bid on/matched.

Oh good point. Touted to be top 30. I'd really hate to miss on him. We are in a deficit for all four, for sure.

Say he goes 23, we'd need another 815 (652 after discount) points which won't be too hard.

I think we'd need another 800 points (equiv of pick 23) total to cover all four players and have some wiggle room for picks going up a little.

Given how stacked we are in the middle (and he himself was pushed to the defensive line in the Allies team) do we have to make a hard call on Will and try to trade him back in later if need be? Or just get it done and have the guys together from day dot?
